Modding decision

I want to put an MM style humbucker on one of my basses but cannot decide which. Should I do it on my Precision or Corvette?!

I know the position is not going to be the same as a Stingray unless I do it on the corvette which also has the EQ already there.

Does anyone have any experience of a P/MM setup?

I think the Corvette will be the right choice but I just want to see what others think.

Shouldn't you ask a Mod ... no, wait ...

I'm not a mod ;).

I like both, different instruments with different sounds but either would work for me in a band as they are.

the P-bass would be my choice, if you swap the position of the d-g part of the p-pup then the MM can go in the sweet spot, the classic example is this http://basschat.co.uk/topic/86953-pingray/page__hl__pingray

I've been thinking of doing this for a while probably with sonic blue cv squire.

I did this to a bitsa P that I put together 10 years ago, adding the MM pickup (a leftover from a modified Vintage V96 I tinkered with). I didn't want to add it to the Stingray sweet spot but to provide me with a bridge pickup with a bit more substance than a single coil. I wired up the bass VVT and had a 3-way switch on the MM pickup for Series/Parallel/Split, for extra tone variation.

The demo I recorded when I sold it was just to demonstrate the pickup combinations, so it's not very good quality. I don't know how useful the demo will be as it was wearing a 2-year old set of TI flats at the time:

I put this together a couple of years ago, whilst not strictly a mm pup it was wired the same, I had both coils wired seperately into a dual pot, sounded very nice.

Thanks for the opinions chaps.

I think i'll go for the Corvette, as it already has a preamp and I could effectively turn it into a FNA Jazzman (apart from the angled neck pickup).

Now I just need to decide what pickup to go for. Anyone ?! Seymour Duncan are quite cheap on Thomann at the moment.
