Hey guys,

It really saddens me to be listing the bass again but alas, I'm a total Precision bass guy and just can't settle on jazz bass necks!

Like so many other owners, I'm probably going to regret moving this one on as it literally sounds phenomenal. HUGE low end, massive tonal bandwidth in recording, very clear and articulate (thanks to the wonderful marriage of the recently installed U-Retro with the Nordstrand J4s). The Aguilar OBP-1 (original installed pre) sounded great, but I just craved the flexibility of a VTC and a mid control, hence the U-Retro upgrade. Since installing the U-Retro, the bass has upped it's game once again tonally, with a vast array of different sounds available as you can imagine.

The build quality on this bass is outstanding, one of the tightest neck pocket I've come across, with a lovely low action and effortless neck. A truly wonderful example of how a bass should be constructed, but not surprising considering Nino Valenti worked for Roger Sadowsky for years before starting his own line of basses!

I've popped on a Hipshot Xtender key in place of the original E machine head and the bass was setup by Chris McIntyre at McIntyre guitars in Edinburgh as well. A few, 'been gigged' dings on the finish that I've tried to photograph as best as I could, but nothing major.

Specs:

Alder Body
Candy Apple Red w/Matching headstock
Maple neck w/Pau Ferro fretboard
1 1/2" @ nut
34" Scale
12" Radius
Graphite Reinforced neck
Nordstrand NJ4 pickups
John East U-Retro Preamp
Chrome Hardware
Mint Green pickguard
Hipshot Vintage Style Bridge
19mm String Spacing
Hipshot UltraLite Tuners (including recently added hipshot drop D Xtender)
Strap Locks
Semi hard case inc.
Weighs 9 pounds exactly

This bass was built with all the upgrades from the word go and with the addition of the 2 extra mods mentioned above, it's truly spec'd out to pro, 'super jazz' status for less than half the price of your average custom build

Delivery options:

Will courier at the buyers expense but also happy to delivery anywhere in the UK (within reason!) at a time/place that suits you for 20p per mile to save the hassle and worry of a courier :)

I'm listing the bass at a price/trade value of[s] £1000+ (trade) / £900 (sale)[/s] £695 sale which I feel is criminal, but unfortunately necessary due to Nino Valenti's name still being under the UK/Europe radar at the moment (it's stuns me as to 'why' to this day to be honest!).

Cheers,

Ross

2016 pictures update:

I gave this beauty an accidental finish ding a few months back which can be seen in the updated pictures below (chip near the jack socket area).
As always, this affects nothing and adds character however at the interest of full disclosure I obviously wanted to upload some more recent snaps (apologies for the poor energy saving bulb lighting in the pics!).

It's running at 9v now as standard with the john East preamp Luke, and literally sounds night and day compared with the old aguilar obp-1! I think I still have the old pre and clip somewhere in the loft, but haven't missed it in the slightest :)

Hey Luke,

The U-Retro, to my ears, has warmed up and/or brought out the natural tone of this bass far more than the Aguilar ever did. Passive mode sounds rich and creamy now, as opposed to the slightly 'sharper' sound of the bypassed OBP-1 (not sure what pots were in the cavity originally, but I didn't enjoy the passive tone too much and missed having a tone control to tame the 'open' brightness, which is now a problem solved!).

I also found the OBP-1 pretty o.t.t. for practical use; the bass was too insane past 1/4 turn (but then again, this bass already has a naturally powerful low end), and the treble far too brittle for my liking. The U-Retro releases an ocean of bass without being cataclysmic, treble that remains smooth and musically airy when pushed hard and of course the amazing mid control that I like to fine tune to open harmonics to enhance their body and cut, which in turn adds extra beef to the low-mids simultaneously. The U-Retro has just upped the tonal quality for me, and no matter how hard you push it, it still sounds musical!

As heart breaking as it is to list a bass worth over $2000 new (not including import tax, shipping and further upgrades from stock!), the fact Nino Valenti isn't as popular as his mentor Rodger Sadowsky has forced me to drop this bass back down to an insane, FINAL price of £695 (!!!).

If I was gigging this bass more often I'd never sell it, but I can't justify having it in my arsenal at the moment with my other 2 workhorse basses being far too sentimental to sell. I've also added a few new pictures (apologies for the poor energy saving bulb lighting, but it's the best I capture this evening!) to highlight a fresh 'gigging ding' near the jack socket. Again, this merely adds character and affects nothing, but in the interests of full disclosure etc. etc.

Just to recap, that's a CUSTOM built jazz bass (For NAAM 2007 I might add, as inscribed on the back control cavity cover!) built by a well respected luthier based in New York City, with all the industry standard mods you could ever want, for £695..!!
