Anyone fancy a Jazz Bass one?[/color][/font] [color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Again, it doesn't have to be a Fender, just a Jazz type bass - interpret as you wish![/font][/color] [font="helvetica, arial, sans-serif"][color="#282828"]So my first (and only) Jazz is the one below, I bought it new in 2005 from the Academy of Sound (RIP) in Leeds. I used a R**********r and a Stingray up to that point but during an album recording session the producer (Welsh idiot Owen Morris) suggested using a magical Squier Jazz he owned. It had some custom pickups in (i don't know which, I didn't really care at the time, how times change) and it was the one used by Mark Hamilton on Free All Angels album he produced by Ash. The strings were really old and dead but sounded great in the mix so I relented, I was used to the Stingray zing so it took some convincing![/color][/font] [font="helvetica, arial, sans-serif"][color="#282828"]I owned my Jazz for years and then sold in it a misguided wave of Stingray nostalgia. Luckily I was able to get it back recently and have been smitten since retrieving ownership. It is nothing remarkable, just a black USA Jazz, but it sounds great and served me well and I won't ever let it go again. Lozz196 Posted April 14, 2015 Share Posted April 14, 2015 I`ve never really been a Jazz Bass man, but recently I`ve found myself appreciating them more. So much so that I`m considering pulling the sale of my 2005 US black/black/maple Jazz. I`m unlikely to use it in a band situation, as the Precision is just me, but I really like my Jazz, it just seems a waste not using it much. Quandry Time! Tried lots of different makes and types over the last 20 years or so, but the bass I'd always pick up as my gold standard would be my 1985 MIJ 60s reissue Jazz. Everything just feels natural and 'right' about Jazz basses to me. So I sold most of my other basses and now have 3 Jazzes: A MIJ Geddy Lee Sig The above-mentioned 85 MIJ A MIC CV Jazz All have Badass bridges and I've changed the pickups on the MIJ and the CV Jazz. Soul-Fi Steve Posted April 14, 2015 Share Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) I've been more of a jazz bass player than a P bass player over the years. My first, which I still have, was/is a 1972 black with black scratchplate, rosewood board. Its got a couple of scuff from being well played over the years but othewise its in mint condition & plays beautifully. I've also got a 1975 maple neck Jazz - the body was originally sunburst but its been stripped & sanded. Its quite a bit heavier than the '72 & has a much hotter output. My favourite bass & a relatively recent purchase is a '64 Custom Shop Jazz in British Racing Green, with matching headstock, with a mint green scratch plate. CamdenRob Posted April 15, 2015 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Similar to precisions I eschewed jazz bases for years as they were Fenders and represented everything I hated in an instrument... Second time around I am older and wiser and I love a good jazz bass, in fact should it ever actually arrive I have a fretless jazz on order at the moment. I love the bridge pickup bark. Chiliwailer Posted April 15, 2015 Share Posted April 15, 2015 I do like a nice Jazz Bass me I started off with a USA 5 string Deluxe, especially bought for a band I was in, when that was finished I ended up selling it and bought a MIM Standard - I was using P Basses or a MusicMan Sabre mostly so it was used as a practice bass due to the versatility. I liked playing it so much that I sold some bits and came home with an original 1964 Jazz which was beautiful. I had to sell that one to buy property, since then I've had a couple of USA standards, USA 75RI, and an original 1972 but have stuck with a CS Closet Clasic '63 Jazz Bass, it's the one most suited to me. Still fancy a Mike Lull M4V but my CS is a real stand out one, compared it to at least 6 other CS's and it's always come out on top so why change? I actually sold it once about 10 years ago and regretted it within days but thankfully a year or so later the guy who bought it needed to raise some cash. I sold all my other basses and my girlfriend sold her car to get the money together so I could get this back... my girlfriend is now obviously my wife. First time around, I had an early 70's Fender P Lovely bass, but heavy, and really chunky neck - too uncomfortable for me That put me off Fenders for a long time Then I tried a RW Jazz from someone selling one on BC I loved it instantly - so I bought it It's an amazing bass - the best I've ever owned, or even played And I've owned and played quite a few I also had a US Jazz in White, which looked stunning, but was never as good as my RW I since bought another US Jazz, (72 re-issue) which is lovely But for me, my RW is the most comfortable to play, and sounds fab It's just got everything I want I know many don't like relic or roadworn guitars But it's so liberating not to have to worry too much about it getting scratched or "dinged" It's a real workhorse, and for a Mex made bass, it simply outshines even the best US models I've tried I know I'll never get rid of it I have several basses, and this is my go-to and my fave ....It took me a long time to find my ideal bass But this Roadworn Jazz is just that bass - amazing EDIT: And I know some talk of "fake mojo" but this bass looks, sounds and feels like it's been around a long time... Real shame, as I love the way they look and feel when other players use them. Always a little jealous that they never sound any good with me for some reason!
