Checking pickups

Hi all,

I have a set of Nordstrand NJ4 pickups they appear not to be working. I have put a mulitmeter on the connections where the wiring is attached and i get no reading, I tried the same on another set of pickups and i got a reading so the meter is good.

The wiring seems to be connected and the copper wire is attached on the connections. I have tried them in the bass and nada.

Any thoughts oh where to go now? I am gutted to find these arent working

/Mike

I just had this on a jazz style pickup I'd been asked to fix. Where the hook-up wire meets the (VERY thin) bobbin wire, there was the tiniest bit of corrosion, and when I touched it it fell off. I think this is probably the most likely place for any pickup wire to fail. Even though the bobbin wire is so thin it is still reasonably strong in tension.

I had a Nordstrand NJ4SE fail on me a while ago. They use very thin wire on those and I could see the end of a broken wire loose from the coil.

Upon posting about it on Talkbass, as I really liked the pickup but was worried to buy another if they had a history of failures I learnt that there isn't really a documented problem with them, and someone from Nordstrand contacted me and asked me to send it to them. They fixed it for free.

Contact Nordstrand! :)
