MarkBass SA450 line recording hum

Hi Everyone,

If I need I always record my guitars and/or basses directly connected to my Sound blaster bay panel and its all right.
This time I wanted make it "better" by recording via amp.

I`m happy user of Markbass SA450 and Jabba Mayones 4 strings with Delano HUM canceling pickups.
There is NO hiss when recording direct sound and when not using the amp as mentioned.

Ground lift switch make it a bit better but still can hear the hum/hiss....
Have checked the cable between the amp and sound card bay and seems to be all right.
Does it matter if the bass is in passive or active mode.

What else can do?

Thanks in Advance!
Tomas

I'm surprised you're not getting any noise recording your bass directly into your sound blaster. The inputs on it are likely not designed to take a guitar signal. If anything it should be better recording from the amp, but, I really would recommend you get a decent audio interface if you're getting into recording.

I`m surprised You telling me I shall have one :)
My apologies, Its sound blaster Audigy wit Drive Bay, I guess not very bad quality. No matter what I record: ESP B205 Fretless or my Mayones Jabba 4 THERE is no hiss/hum at all... I want to record via an amp to get more sound variations which Markbass creates but as said before getting pretty lot of noise...

Here it is an example:

Bass + Sound blaster audigy:

as said, your sound blaster won't be designed to take an instrument signal.

also take into account that once you put an amp into the mix there is much more in a signal chain to cause a noise than if you go direct. electrics for example, even light fittings can cause it.

I use an interface and still get some humm off amps. unless you are in a perfectly formed studio, often it is something that you have to cope with at home.

a bit of humm doesn't hurt in the overall scheme
