FS: Yamaha SLB-100 EUB, case & full circle PUP **SOLD**
£1000

The big daddy of EUBs!

It guts me to sell what is not only a wonderful instrument but a wonderful piece of engineering and to my eye a work of art, albeit rather skeletal art!

Anyway, the reason for sale is straight forward, I don't play it anymore. As some of you know, I live in Canterbury and work in Aberystwyth (I know). I bought this to keep at the office to enable me to do at least 20 mins of scales per day when I'm up in Wales. The reality is that when I'm there I'm in work mode and have rarely managed to find the necessary time, patience or location to practice properly. I recently decided that as it wasn't being used there I'd bring it back to Canterbury, only to find it's not being used here, simply because I've an Olde English Blonde sitting around here for those moments when I need to dabble.

Those of you who've played one will know just what a magnificent beast it is. It doesn't pretend to replicate the tone of an acoustic instrument (although with the Full Circle on board it gets close enough for me), it was designed to allow pro orchestral and jazzers to practice silently via the headphone output. It was therefore built to feel and respond like a DB to both pizz and arco. Having said that, I've gigged it successfully on a few occasions and have had compliments on the tone (as much the result of it being a doddle to amplify and EQ as to any inherent total qualities of the instrument).

It's in good but not perfect condition. It all works. It has the optional knee support (I think it's for the knee, I don't use it). The action is LOW LOW LOW, you can get it up as much as you want, but I've played fretless basses with higher action than this instrument. If you're an electric bass player looking to get into DB, this would be a very good starting point, not least because the low action will remove what is one of the main barriers to starting on DB, the tension between wanting to crack on with it on the one hand and muscle fatigue and potential injury on the other.

Perhaps goes without saying that this can't be posted. I will however do all I can to accommodate/facilitate collection or meetup.

These sell for over £3k. One grande for such a high quality instrument? Well, to quote LS&TSB, "It's a deal, it's a steal, the sale of the f*****g century" And yes, I may well keep it :)

No trades thanks, got everything I need :)

So tempting

Sounds rather good through large tube amps mate :)

On a related issue, had the huge pleasure of seeing Old Crow Medicine Show at The Roundhouse, and as far as I could tell, he was playing his DB through an SVT and a fridge. MASSIVE sound, but about as far from DB as you can get!

Hope all's well Steve

I've played the KK Bass through the Matamp and 8x10 a few times, it works but my favourite EUB sound is still through a B-15, especially now the Matamp has sold and it's the only amp I own.

Everything sound s god though a B-15 mate, even my playing!

Recently bought an Eminence (which is fab BTW)
If I hadn't got that - I'd have gone for this immediately

Though I'm not sure I've heard one of these in the flesh,
from the recordings and samples I've heard, and from what others say
These sound incredibly like an acoustic DB, and for something that hasn't got any acoustic body / chamber....

Anyhow, I'm sure someone will snap this up pronto
GLWTS Beedster :)
