I quite like the recorded songs I've heard, so will check it out, despite my FB feed being full of seething criticism from those there and those who watched on TV.

Slightly OT, but the only thing I've heard so far was Florence's set on the radio - cringingly bad 😕

I liked some of it, and some parts were awful. I liked the fact that he didn't bring a band - he brought the club, his real show, to the field. That worked for me. Some of the material is very weak though. Still, a million times more enjoyable that Florence (for me). My faves so far have been Young Fathers, Vintage Trouble, and the Mothership.

Kanye smashed it. The haters ain't ever gonna "get it". Pure Kanye last night. Just him in the light. Piled on all of the hits right from the gun. Loved it.

This is music 2015 style.

+1.

Of course you won't like it if it's hip hop. I have never had a conversation with a middle aged white bloke about Kanye... or even classic hip hop (DMC/PE etc.)

Having watched quite a bit of the set on Youtube, i think it was lucky that Jay Z was the first rapper to play Glastonbury. If Kanye had been the first ever rapper, i don`t think anymore would have been invited back. I don`t like rap, but Jay Z was a great success in my opinion( not that it is worth that much). Sadly, Kanye just bombed for me. There doesn`t seem to be many positive reviews anywhere on the net either.I think the BBC liked him, but i think they are either contractually obliged to be nice, or they are easily impressed.

I thought the bass player was great

No musicians on stage, just backing tracks, if this is Music 2015 we all might as well sell all our bass gear.

Considering you are on a Bass Forum, what are your thoughts, Jenny Innie and Lay Down Da Funk ?

Was anyone else slightly disappointed at the lack of an actual Mothership though, like they had on some of the 70s tours?

Isn't in a museum somewhere? Probably sold to fund habits! Saw him twice in the 90s and that was great in patches but last night GC and band nailed it for me, 73 and still funkin!
Lots of pussycat action too, methinks BBC camera person was enjoying his work!

Independent, Telegraph and Guardian seemed to love it...
[/quote]The Guardian gave 3 stars, and most comments are negative. From the review that they had written, i am not sure where the 3 stars came from. True that the Independent liked it. The Telegraph only gave 3 stars. not really sounded like they loved it that much. Just very average, from the greatest ever living rock star.

Sorry. I'm a white middle aged guy. I grew up in the 80s/90s, the formative years of Hip Hop. What I heard last night was NOT hip hop.

Obviously he has fans but Glastonbury is no longer the place for a specialist artist to perform. Especially as it's now become a Mecca for middle aged marketing consultants. :D

I totally agree. This is one of the things that get my goat. Calling this hip-hop is insulting. It just isn't, it's an electro RnB mumblefest. I'm listening to 'A Tribe Called Quest' right now as I type. Now THAT is hip-hop (IMO etc)

Lee Nelson blew Kanye off the stage...
Kanye's problem is that he thinks he has the force of personality and the talent to carry off being solo on stage with just a gigawatt of lights to keep him company.
However, no amount of gesturing and posturing was going to disguise his poor and tuneless vocals. And by that I don't mean just his attempts at "singing" but his shouts sounded much more petulant than authoritative.
If he'd had a band he could at least have played off them a bit.
Perhaps if he'd taken more notice of the Parliamentarians last night who absolutely smashed it instead of just being an arrogant £%*@ he'd have appealed to more than just a few fanbois. After all, he's got some good songs...
