I'm parting with my Teisco/Woolworths 'Top Twenty': too many guitars I don't play!

This guitar is in remarkable condition for a guitar of its age (uncertain, but probably at least 45 years old) and type, especially when 'Top Twenty's have a reputation for questionable build quality and perhaps not being 'pampered' as some other guitars might be. There are of course some swirl marks and surface scratches, but you have to look pretty hard to see these. There's also a small area of peeling lacquer on the headstock edge (photographed). The metalwork is a little grimy, but only in hard-to-reach places: some of the screws have oxidised a bit too, but you might expect that given its age!

Everything works, with no scratchy pots or switches. It's surprisingly versatile sound-wise: does jangly and gritty very nicely, although perhaps not best suited to Metal! It has all the original badges and stickers (including the one where you might expect the truss rod to be on the headstock, which often seems to have disappeared on these). There's also one on the back of the headstock for the 'Association of Musical Instrument Industries', whatever that was: I've never seen this on another 'Top Twenty'. The 'Top Twenty' headstock badge is also present and correct. The original vibrato arm and tuning pegs are present: a couple of the pegs are a little on the stiff side but still work as they should. The action is slightly on the high side and there's a very slight choking on the higher strings around the 9th/10th fret: it could be a high fret, or a set up would probably address this but I've lived with it and it's not caused me a problem.

If you're after a good example of a 'Top Twenty' or just something a bit different in the six string department with bags of character, charm and history in extremely good condition for the price of an anonymous Strat copy this might be for you! Feel free to ask questions: collection only from east of Oxford (just off M40 J8).

Great Scott! A friend of mine had this exact guitar and I had a Kay guitar, both played through a Woollies 15W 'Audition' amp. This was 1973, 1974 or thereabouts, just as I got my very first bass (Avon EB0 copy). Happy days. Actually not, but hey. GLWTS. :)

I would imagine this has been a lot of peoples' 'first guitar'. Well, this has, or the Woolies version, or the Kay version, or the Audition version, or the Arbiter version! Unlike most though this one has very few 'battle scars': they seem to be perceived as not being particularly robust, but this one has fared pretty well!

Ha!! Sounds just like our lot, back in the same period. Ahhh, the Seventies. . . . Man! :D
My mate had one of these.

Great condition - can't be many like that!

:)
