The frets were in a mess from 10 years worth of heavy handed abuse but Jim worked his magic and brought them back to life, the horrid plastic nut was replaced with nice piece of bone that had been dyed black to fit in with the look of the bass. A lovely job. Once home and plugged in it became apparent that Jim had transformed this instrument into what it should have been all along... a high quality, professional instrument. He was based in Newtown Mid wales. He mainly built Accoustic instruments but would repair, custom build anything. A nice chap as well! omikin Posted November 21, 2014 Share Posted November 21, 2014 I want to big up Jim Fleeting in Ripon again. I've had pretty much everything into him for a decent setup which he's great at. Even a 2nd hand Squier Affinity P bass my boss bought for her son came back playing like a much more expensive instrument. And yesterday I picked up my older P bass which I had taken in to have the back of the neck refinished. A previous owner had repeatedly leant the bass against a sharp edge and there were large sections of scratches and dings all over the neck. He's done an incredible job - it's like a new vintage neck if that makes sense. Nitrocellulose matching the aged look of the rest of the neck, and satin finish. The work is great. the timescale is as he says it will be and the comms are great. It is like being in a parallel universe compared to my normal luthier experiences. I received my custom pickguard from Sims today and it was a perfect fit, so a big thumbs up from me for them and their service. My Lakland US Glaub was the patient and it was proving tricky to find/buy a replacement 'guard for it so after a few emails with Martin the original was sent off to be used as a template and Robert is your Father's Brother!
