I recommend Andy Bunn in Stratford upon Avon.. Setups, repairs, electrics - it's all good with him..

I've had a look through this thread as doing a search for Dundee brought it up but not seen anything - mobile's not the best for searching!

Anyone in or around Dundee? Emailed one or two but none have replied

I had a fret re-dress and set up by Colin at Dave Mann in Nottingham and was decidedly underwhelmed. I was in a massive hurry and had a toddler in tow, due to my wife being temporarily incapacitated after a bike crash, so I had to dash without thoroughly checking. I had a gig anyway, so I needed the instrument. Frets are fine and I have no complaint, but the set-up was bobbins. The action was set so unnecessarily high as to be almost unplayable unless you were the world's hardest pick player with a bionic left hand. I lowered it a bit and took it to practice, but the string tension felt wrong, then noticed that the saddles were adjusted a very long way back. I later measured the scale length at significantly over 34". I readjusted it myself and lowered the action again and now it's playing more or less right. Money down the drain that I absolutely couldn't afford to waste, plus the aggro of being without my main bass for a week. I wish I'd left it alone and put up with the fret wear.

Hello, guys.

Can you tell me a good luthier in London, UK. Some one who is a great repair man, a good friendly person and someone who doesn't charge a lot like in the main guitar shops in London.

I need to re-fret my fender bass, do some setup and rewire electronics.

Thanks in advance.

Of course, only after I'd started a new thread did I spot this pinned one. So, here's what I had to say about Paul Stevens in Eastbourne:

Hamster, I have been going my own set-ups for a while and recently did a guitar maintenance course at Crimson guitars. I have all the tools (and a well depleted bank balance) to to basic set-ups as well as fret levels and crowning. At the moment I am not doing re-frets but will offer it in future.

I am based in Poole, Dorset so Dorset and Southern Hampshire would be my area.

Just had my P-Bass re-fretted from these guys: http://www.eternal-guitars.com/basses

Based near Chichester. Had a Re-fret, a new pot, electrics cleaned, new strings and a 1 inlay replacement. Came to around £300.

A good mate of mine swears by Eternal Guitars - post 219 - near Chichester

I can add Simon Law of SVL Guitars - http://www.svlguitars.com/ - near Winchester

Not had any work done myself but as he was Robben Ford's tech and is currently on tour with Pete Townsend I reckon that's probably better than a recommendation from me. Also does amp work (for the same guys).
