Hi Folks

*** SOLD ***

With a new bass incoming, I've decided to put my Levinson Blade B15 Jazz bass up for sale at £300 + shipping in order to help balance the books..

I bought this from BassBunny a couple of years ago to replace the Roscoe Beck 5 string I was selling at the time, and over the two years I've had it, I've used it a lot at gigs and rehearsals and it's been great! Very comfortable for long gigs/rehearsals, a very nice action and a lovely warm sound.

As you can see in the photos, it's in pretty good condition, though it's by no means perfect, though that's never worried me because it plays so nicely and sounds like a 5 string jazz should; i.e. phat & funky!

The neck is straight, truss rod works and the frets have plenty of life left in them. No problems with the electronics either.. Not sure what the pick ups are, but they are Alnico single-coils and have a good vintage sound to them with plenty of output too..

On that note, this is a passive bass, but at one time it would have had the stock Levinson pre-amp in it.. However, even without that, it still has a nice vintage growl to it and a very even tone across all the strings.. In fact, I have to say that for a 34" scale 5 string, the B string is very, very good on this bass!

Not sure how old this one is,but here's a link to the website which has details of the current B15 models: http://www.bladeguit.../b1-series/b15/

And as you can see from this GAK link, these basses used to retail at about £700 new: http://www.gak.co.uk...a-standard/3871

And here's a YouTube clip on one being played: https://youtu.be/4lpGe5PLSjQ

I'm happy to very carefully package this up and ship it, though obviously I prefer it when people come and check out a bass in person, as it's always such a persona thing... So if you're interested and nearby, feel free to get in touch and arrange to come and have a play and a cuppa.. :)

The bass will come supplied in a gig bag and will have an extra set of Carvin strings with it though they won't be fitted..

Any questions, please PM me or ask away here.

Thanks for looking,

Nik

As a previous owner of this bass, I can confirm it is a stonker. With an East J-Retro it is absolutely epic.
Actually these bases were never really active Nik. They were passive but with an active "mid range boost" circuit. You pulled the tone pot and it switched in the boost control. I have the circuit diagram that Gary Levinson sent me when I made some enquiries about the pre-amp.

...Updated for trade options and new price, i.e. £350 or near offer, including shipping!

Regarding trades, I'm on the lookout for a 212 lightweight (ish) cab or similar, so would be prepared to do a deal if you've something interesting.. :)

Thanks for looking.

Hi, did you keep the preamp?
is it the Japan made as prevouisly ? Korean or chines?
Hi there,

I never had the pre amp when I bought the bass unfortunately.

There aren't any markings on the bass that I can see easily that identify where was made, so I can't give you an answer on that right now..

Hopefully, one of it's previous owners here on Basschat might be able to shed some light as to it's origins?

Sorry I can't tell you more.

Nik

Definitely! I had an Audere in a Yamaha 5 string a few years ago and it was excellent..

I'm still interested in trades for a light weight cab of some kind, if anyone's got one spare and fancies a great 5 string Jazz in return?

BUMPING this with a new price of

£300

I've finally sorted out my lightweight cab situation now, so am looking for a straight sale on this at £300. As I've already said, I'm happy to ship this and shipping's usually around £15.

Any questions, please PM me or ask away here.

Thanks for looking! :)

Any update on it's country of origin? :-)
Sorry, I've no new info to offer at this point I'm afraid.

Note to self - perhaps an email to Levinson directly might help..?
