its a good job there's a propper bass player there too :)[/quote]

'Proper' is relative to your point of view.

The bass guitar is only about 50 years old, who knows what it will evolve into, with so young an instrument we should surely be looking forward to the future of it, and embracing it's expanding role, not living in the past.

The electric guitar started of as an acoustic with gut strings, and what about the modern keyboard, look at all of its predecessers.

The acoustic came from the lute which was a fretted version of an Arabic oud. Yum - fretless guitar. :)

You know he was just kidding.

I think some of the opposition to ERB from bassists and non-bassists alike is that they're intimidated by it: "What will happen to our role if ERB takes over?" etc.

Some of the bassists who are strongly opposed to ERB just wouldn't have the technique or mindset to be able to play one (at least in their minds) and then guitarist and keyboard players fear they could both be replaced completely with one bassist. Sweet revenge for the 70s and 80s!

I think the thing people should remember before being so opposed to the idea is that noone will force ERB on you. There's no way it will completely revolutionise the way music is made for everyone. For the people who do embrace it, it will open up new possibilities - but it's all about choice, eh?

I'm a 4 stringer, but soloing a bass makes complete sense to me. I adore the soft, warm tone.

Face up to it, you'll never burn an instrument like Hendrix.

Thank you so much! We are 'off the road' temporarily, but will be back out later in the year with the material and some awesome musicians joining us.

In the meantime, there's more on Andy's site as well.. just click on 'Andy James ' in our 'friends'

I did a gig once with a 7 string guitar guy - we were tearing up funk and jazz standards like "Have You Met Miss Jones" and "Nardis", total shred style. It were great.

Looking forward to it. I know my guitarist will love it - he's very much of a metal background. I can't listen to a lot of metal (just 'cos of the shout/scream vocal and some of the thrash drum grooves) but your stuff isn't like that. Just sounds like good prog rock to me without the flowery self-indulgent stuff.

Thank you! I really appreciate your views. Yes, the first listen or two can sound a bit hard on the ole lugs, but there really is melody in there and I thank ya for spending a moment to listen to the choons.

I was reading a comment the other day from a chap who listen to about 10 seconds of one song and decided that all of it was quote 'widdley sh*t'. Now.. I love my prog and we really enjoy doing stuff to challenge us.. mebbe a bit endulgent! but I like to think that its well constructed and interesting ;o)

Cheers again,

dood
