Tuco Posted August 8, 2015 Share Posted August 8, 2015 I just recently had to build myself a new audio PC , mine went kaput and I waved goodbye to XP and my trusty old EMU 1820. I was always happy with the converters etc (although I brought a new mic pre but I digress) To replace the 1820 Im thinking of getting the Steinberg UR22 interface Simple is good, I dont need any other inputs so on paper it ticks boxes. Any of you guys use it or would recommend me something similar and/or better. I'm going to be using it primarily with guitar so latency needs to be spot on. lowdown Posted August 8, 2015 Share Posted August 8, 2015 I have a UR22, and it works great, really solid, both Audio and Midi. It runs at very low latency as well. Not sure what DAW you use? I run it with Cubase, so can use the zero latency hardware monitoring, which means I can run ar higher buffer settings (more Software synths and VST's). Maybe that function works with other DAW's as well. At that price, IMO, all the interfaces pretty much sound the same and do the same thing. Not had any ASIO problems, and there was an update recently. I have just updated to W10 and it runs flawlessly on that, although Steinberg did advise to wait, so maybe another driver update on the way? Guest bassman7755 Posted August 20, 2015 Share Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) With pretty much any good USB interface you will get around 10 ms through-daw total latency on the fastest ASIO settings: 2.5 ish ms ASIO buffer and 2.5 ish ms USB delay in and out. If your ultra fussy about latency then youl need to go PCI e.g. the RME or avid (pro tools) cards or if your on a tight budget the soundblaster x-fi titanium (or fatality pro) does a pretty decent job and smacks any USB interface for latency. Another low latency option is the line 6 UX interfaces which have the advantage of allowing you to direct monitor a fully effected signal (with the option to record dry). I'm sure you've considered this, but just make sure it's compatible if you're going to make the leap to windows 10. In know someone who made the upgrade only to find that the EMU sound card wouldn't work and aren't supported. Whether it will if it's a USB version, I don't know.
