If you had to have one..

I've given up on getting a lightweight cab within my meagre budget but I'm still looking for something reasonably transportable. With this in mind I'm looking for a 1 cab solution, so, would a 115 or 210 be sufficient to get a decent sound? If so, which would provide the "better" option?

I'm sure people will come back and say get both, however this isn't really an option from a space perspective at the moment.

Parameters are I play in a punk band with a precision, generally looking for it to handle pub gigs and small clubs.

I have recently gone down to a single 210 from a 2x112 set up. It is not as loud and obviously doesn't not have quite the bottom end. But... it is plenty loud enough to be heard over an enthusiastic drummer, still sounds like a bass guitar and is actually portable enough for me to transport it about. I haven't played a gig with it but half volume on the amp at rehearsal is more than enough.

I might be a little concerned about a 210 being enough for a gig if you're relying on it entirely to provide all your volume... All of my gigs have full PA support so I generally just DI. My rig is just for rehearsals really and when I need it as a monitor.

The budget is about £200, given that it won't be used a massive amount as the majority of venues provide a 410/610/810 I cant really justify a greater outlay.

Most of the gigs are DI'd also but I want it so in a worst case scenario I would be able to chuck it in a car/taxi and the show will go on.

If you can get a little bit more cash together you could consider this...

http://www.thomann.d...tronic_k210.htm

But for £300 - £350 you could get something decent from the for-sale forums here.

I really wouldn't recommend anything new for £200. If you're not going to use the cab much and don't want to shell out for that reason, then I'd seriously think about whether you should buy one at all. It's false economy, really - when you do use the cab it's not going to do what you want, so will be largely a waste of cash that you could have put towards something worth using. My 2p! :)

What about this:

http://basschat.co.uk/topic/267814-genz-benz-focus-115t-cab-15-inch-price-drop-l140/page__pid__2844311#entry2844311

I've no affiliation with the current owner. Looks like a good cab though

21kg is nothing, one should be able to lift that with one's little finger. It's a bargain.

I'd probably look at a 1x15. I borrowed a 1x15 cab last year, it belonged to the headline band's bass player. I was skeptical as it look like a right dogs breakfast...how wrong was I. A 300w head into a tatty 1x15, it really had guts to it.

For the budget available I don`t think you can get any better than that Genz cab. Fits the bill nicely, fairly lightweight and portable, and being Genz will most likely sound decent too. Adjustable tweeter, and power handling of 300 watts, well a good deal I reckon. I`ve done a good few gigs where the provided rig has been a 1x15 combo, usually around the 150watts mark, and for stage monitoring only it`s been more than enough. If putting a 300 watt or so amp into that cab, well with the right eq that also should be plenty for pub sized venues.

What kind of output are you needing?

2x10 for £220? http://www.gear4musi...inet-2-x-10/H4S

1x15 for £200? http://www.gear4musi...inet-1-x-15/H4R

I have the 2x10 cab, bought it second hand with an am head, and tried out a few Hartke cabs at the same time, this RedSub 2x10 just sounded so much sweeter. It's basically the same as the Thomann Harley Benton 2x10 cab, but with a 4 ohm impedance, where the HB is 8 ohm (& white speakers). Nice and light too, you can carry it with 1 hand, the cab is actually a lot lighter than the Hartke head I bought at the same time!

Thomann Harley Benton 2x10 £110??? http://www.thomann.d...nton_bb210t.htm :D :o
