Since buying my Rob Allen MB2, this really nice bass has taken a massive back seat (as you would expect - the MB2 is awesome). Having heard the MB2 on a live playback, there doesn't seem to be much point in keeping this. Now, as you probably know, the GWB35 only comes in 'Non More Black' which, frankly, is depressing to look at unless you're a death metal/doom rock player. So, not long after I bought it, I stripped it back to natural. This revealed some average looking basswood and a big knot (see pic below) which I sealed with Danish Oil and waxed (I also added extra copper foil shielding to the cavity). After a while, as I became bored with the look of the basswood, I covered the front with figured, stick on vinyl and then pin-striped it by hand. Sound tacky? Really not so much and people are often taken aback when I tell them how this was achieved (there is a thread somewhere with a couple of basses with this treatment). The beauty of this top is that it is completely reversible. There are a few other knocks, dings and sanding swirls, as basswood marks very easily and I've tried to show these in the pics.

Anyway, other than the finish, it has a phenolic 'board, Ibanez soapbar and 2 band active, ultra light tuners, etc, all details here http://www.ibanez.co...=151&color=CL01 and weighs in at a, back friendly, 8lbs. So to photos:

This is what it looks like, just stripped:

It currently has Elixir round wounds on it, but I'll also include a set of La Bella flat wounds. I'll throw in a gigbag too.

[s]£375[/s] £325 of your English Pounds will secure this great sounding (sooo much mwah!) and great playing beast (a steal for this level of instrument, but that's the going rate it would seem), collected from Ez Towers - no trades (sorry). I recommend collection due to the nature of the finish (best seen to be appreciated), that and I don't like to ship instruments with the usual parcel chuckers. Fill yer boots!

At a different time I would certainly be looking for one of these, although not at the moment as I have no fretless songs I am doing and trying to cut down on basses. But I think you have done the mods to it really well, it looks great
Thank you, I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Not everyone's cup of tea, but completely reversible.

I swing back and forth with selling any of my basses I have in the FS section at the moment, but ideally I'd just have the two that'll be left and play them exclusively; getting value for money and all that.

No fretless songs? Get a fretless bass and they will come, to paraphrase Field of Dreams :)

I have a fretless, but I am in a covers band, and they don't want to do japan or paul young :D
Find a new band! :D :D :D The 80s was rather fretless heavy, no wonder I love the music from that decade.

No one, really?

I've been looking at it every now and then. It looks great and I'm sure it sounds lovely, but I have too many basses and too little money.

It's getting like being at work round here...
Looking at the interests in your avatar, I see you're in a field where there are two sides that butt heads regularly; that must be tough. I'm also guessing that witch burning is possibly ecologically unsound, so I retract the comment :)

It's also unsightly, foul-smelling and woefully inhumane. Just think of all those black cats suddenly rendered homeless...

Work-wise, people have a tendency to shoot the messenger.

So far as having too many basses, I maintain that more than 50 is too many. Especially given my lack of space and cash.
