What's this one Jon?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1

Rather a nice one, if the dodgy photo is anything to go by.
He's been trying to shift that for a while - he even signed up to BW/BT and tried to punt it there - for £495, if I remember right - Refused to answer any questions about it. Unsurprisingly, it didn't get a lot of interest.

As for what it is - I'd say either a Maya or a Greco - these being the only identified 4001s copies I've seen. Either way, it is nice. Like the way he's incorporated £20 straight profit into his postage. :)

That Gibsonbacker's interesting in that it now has the same pickup arrangement as most Ibanez 4001 copies!

Warning! Warning! Danger! Danger!

These are OFF-TOPIC and are NOT RickenFakers ... but I thought you might be interested anyway. :)

1. I like this, I like it a lot. But there's no way I can justify buying it.

2. I like this, I like it even more than the Ibanez Les Paul. But there's no way it will stay in my price range.

http://cgi.ebay.de/Rickenbacker-Bass-4003-...1QQcmdZViewItem

I have to go now, got some drool to wipe off the keyboard.

That's just fine with me - appreciating, as I do, all things vintage & Japcrap, & all things with Rickenbacker on the sharp end.

Always fancied a Triumph-alike, but remember it's a safe bet that the same thing with a name other than Ibanez on the end will likely cost half as much.

There's a guy on the RickResource board who converts standard 4003s to 5ers. Wonder if that one's real, or one of his?

Gone - listing ended as item no longer available. Price had gone through £200 with three days to go, so maybe someone offered the full £485.

And here's another Generic-enbacker cipy

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...hlink:middle:uk

Don't know what this is - the guy says it might be an Aria - don't think so, probably the first 70s brand he could think of. Makes a change from sodding Ibanez, I guess.

Something about it says "Hondo" to me - it has an indefinable air of tackiness - however the body doesn't look like ply, so it might not be.
The Oxfam Arbiter is now over £250 with 4 days still left on it...oh well.
I'm thinking about bidding on that Arbiter, but with seventeen people or more bidding it may sloooowly go for a bit more than i'd care to pay.

Only one way of finding out...

Unfortunately, unless you drop lucky at a car boot/charity shop/local paper classifieds these things just don't come cheap any more. :)

Now here's something you don't see every day - a home-built Mani-looky-likey 4005:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1

...complete with a neck from a (wait for it....)

Ibenez! (sic)

Well. They all are, aren't they?

The oxfam Arbiter finally went for £460, which would go a long way to getting a decent bass, that one could be decent, but you know what i mean, glad i didn't bid on it really, as the cylinder head gasket went on my car today, quoted £400 to get it fixed :) @;##".g cars!

P!sser about the car - bloody money pits!

Good choice about the bass - another £150 and you'd be in the ballpark for a real Rick.

£460 is the looniest price I've seen one that doesn't say "Ibanez" on the end sell for. It's not even a neck-through. Anyway - it's all for charidee!

The remains of a suspected Hondo back for another go:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1

Although he reckons it's a "Shaftbry" or something.

Last call on this one - less than 10 minutes left, and £95!

No takers for the cheapest Rick copy in living memory? :)

Indeed we do - that's the neck-through 2388B/DX version, strangely sporting an unusual profusion of ugly brown thumbrests, and a non-original pickup surround - the stock Ibanez one is smaller & should fit the pickup properly.

Note the Gibson-esque mudbuckers - don't buy this if you want a bass that actually sounds like a Rick! :)

its a friend's bass. he bought it after he saw mine. He first wanted to sell it to me but i just found a real 4001 ! btw, this one sound very punchy. if you play with treble pu only, sound is very "ricky".. i agree that mudbucker is not very defined.
he have the whole original plate and screws for the treble pu. But the previous owner put this real rick base plate (he have too the pu chrome cover).
overall a very nice bass. i don't know for thumbrest as usual feature, but mine have one too.

Very nice, & good he's still got the original cover. Do you know roughly how much he's wants to get for it?

The thumbrest under the strings is in the original place, at least, but there's another one above the strings, between the pickups. I think the original would be black, or maybe transparent, like on a real 4001.
