Ive been dealing with Kevin @ stringsandthings for the last month or so regarding my musicman sub, when i wanted to adjust the bridge i bought some wrenches that did'nt fit so i contacted Beth @ ernieball to see if she knew of a musicman spare parts dealer in the uk and gave me a link to Kevin.

I called and spoke to Kevin and he listened to my problems (about my bass) and i found him very pleasant and helpful, he sent me the spares for my bass but they didnt solve the problem. So again i contacted him this time via e-mail and he told me that he would send me a musicman wrench in the post.

I received the wrench friday and have finally managed to set up my bass to a playable level.

Basically i wanted to give a shout out to Kev and say that if anyone needs parts for their musicman he is the guy to speak to!!

Yeah I've had a number of dealings with him and he's solid gold - unfailingly polite, helpful, prompt and informative. I've recommended him by name to others on the pre BC forums.

thats the bloke from Merchant City Music in Glasgow?

certain stringsandthings are the same company!

good shop, however, Sound Control Otago Street Glasgow have an instrument pro dude named Jimmy Egypt who is an absolute genius with all things bass and guitar - he is Martin main repair tech in the UK...he is a bit tetchy but it is worth it for the work he produces!
It's nice to find people who are skilled at what they do. I'm looking in Leeds at the moment.
Try local tool shops.
I got some imperial Allen wrenches from my (excellent) tool shop. I took my MIA jazz in to size them up against it, and they nearly fell over backwards, mumbling;

"What a lovely bit of ash"

and

"Don't scratch it!!"

Bless them!

+1 for local specialist tradespeople!

Also worthy of mention are specialist fastenings shops. My local guys helped me hang an LCD TV on a wall bracket that wouldn't quite fit AND sold me rustless (stainless) scratchplate screws at the same time!
