Me, Stuart and the new baby.

:D :D

Great to see the main man there! Sadly I couldn't make it this year to catch up with Stuart again as I was off on tour in Sweden - but glad you got to hang with him. One helluva guy making amazing instruments B)

I heard discussions around people saying "they'd left their credit cards at home on purpose...". OK, so maybe they'll buy online later from home, but its hardly surprising then that the number of trade stands has dropped... just sayin'...

I think its just a different focus for the show. They have obviously worked out that more people want to go to a show where they can see / meet a bunch of name players doing a little gig / masterclass etc, than people who want to go and check out all the latest gear.

It's no big deal, I'm sure it's a commercial decision to focus on that side of things. I just meant that personally for me I have no interest in that sort of thing and would love to see a huge trade show with all the major manufacturers there with their latest gear to show off.

... that sort of show would likely have more people bringing their credit cards.

Same here. It was the whole reason I went this year, and I have to admit I expected more stuff. Sure, it was more basses in a room than I've seen before but I was hoping for "trade show" levels of stuff.

I purposefully brought my debit card.

1. There were almost twice as many exhibitors this year than last year. We counted the lists on the last two shows brochures.
2. A huge trade show would by definition exclude 'normal' people and only allow companies there. Is that what the majority of us wants?
3. Disappointed by the number of exhibitors? Make the show more attractive to companies by bringing your credit card and buying stuff. Most exhibitors had special show prices for all their goods.

---

Apologies for my low profile and the lack of pictures. I have a very pressing deadline for a couple of articles in BGM and I am travelling. Normal service will be resumed soon. :)

As an exhibitor it was worth attending (although my feet still hurt). We sold enough on our show offer to cover our costs exhibiting.

So at the very least, it was two days of exposure, and generally generating good word-of-mouth.

Doubtless we will sell more stuff in the next couple of weeks to those that were on the fence, or those that it's eating away at that they just didn't buy one. You know who you are. BUY ONE DAMN IT! ;)

I'll probably attend again next year.

Oh, I'm buying a Chowny for sure (was one of those who tried). Not in the next couple of weeks, mind, as moving houses across the country is the main concern currently, but one of those transparent flamed denim blue long-scales is in my near future :)

A red one too, if you ever start making fretlesses.

ah fair enough then. I must admit I wasn't there so am only going on the info in this thread where it has been mentioned there were even fewer exhibitors than last year (when I was there and it was a poor showing).

yes sorry I've used the wrong terminology... I don't mean a trade show where only companies can attend, that wouldn't be of any interest at all. I just mean a hall full of manufacturers stands where you can try / buy the latest gear.

I can't really justify buying stuff I don't want to encourage more manufacturers to attend so I can buy stuff next year I do want...

Sorry I don't mean to pull it all apart, I know you and others put a lot into the day and also get a lot out of it. The show just doesn't really appeal to me in its current format. It's not a problem for the show though... tickets sell well and they should continue to put something on that appeals to the majority (more player / seminar focused)... I would if it was my show.... give the people what they want!

I enjoyed it, glad to see Schack and Lefay there, my main reasons for attending. Did all the main stage events, sorry didn't get to say hi to any of you guys, didn't take my lanyard. oops! but here is a pick of me with a rock chick. So you can say oh thats what the ole buggggr looks like.

The only thing I wanted was a set of half wound strings, but there weren't any to be had. People on the Promenade stand told me they wondered whether or not to bring any but thought they wouldn't get much call for them. I guess it's a bit difficult to predict what you'll be asked for

Anyway I got a catalogue from D'Addarrio so will probably order some online so they will get a sale from me eventually.

I'm a wood man myself don't care for composite necks either, love the organic bond with mother nature from a nice piece of wood :gas:
what did you think of the pretzel bass, very light but it had quite a bark and tone to it, may have benefited having a movable pickup for darker tones. But impressive

I have to admit I didn't get chance to try it. I tried the remington steele because I couldn't believe it would work so I had to give it a shot.

You missed it. Mono were part of a distributors stand, I think they may have been with MXR and someone else?
Yes - distribution of Mono has shifted to Westside Distribution so was part of their MXR/Dunlop/Etc stand.

Just to say hi and thanks for all of you who came over to the Enfield/SimS stand, very special thanks to Keith Baker who is now the proud Dad of a stonking Lionheart 4 fretless! As has been posted, Martin had a nasty accident whilst loading into the show on Friday afternoon and spent the next three days in hospital - one of our big flight-cases fell over and as he tried to grab it, it knocked him over and he has broken his left arm (I was sadly not there to help as travelled down the next day) - he has had an operation to put a plate in it and is now at home recuperating. The stand was however buzzing both days and on behalf of SimS, very special thank yous to George Anderson from Shakatak, who joined us on Saturday, Gabor Horvath, Mark Smith and Jon Randle from Doctor & The Medics.

Cheers! Nick

My third year, and just as enjoyable. Something for everyone. Managed to escape with just another excellent strap from AGS, but have committed to a John East upgrade for my Mike Lull. I had to get up a bit sharp to travel up from Bournemouth to see Michael Manring at 11.15 am, but it was certainly worth it!! Have seen plenty of you tube videos of him, but live he's even better - absolutely stunning. A nice surprise performance from Adam Ben Ezra at the other end of the day, completely unknown to me, but very interesting and varied techniques on the upright bass. Sorry I didn't say hello to anyone, the only person I did know was up on the Saturday. I must be the only person without a picture of Dave Swift, but here's a small collection to whet your appetite for next year.
