For rehearsal to tunes on the iMac and ideally to try out an online rehearsal through something like Skype. I don't need anything complicated, literally just a jack input and the ability to talk online at the same time. If you're looking for something cheaper, there's the Presonus iOne or the Focusrite Scarlet Solo, which are both less than £70 & can be used with your iPad too (I was really tempted by the Presonus iTwo for this reason). Some of the best AD/DA converters around so it just sounds fantastic ... An older One can be had for around 100 quid on ebay (+/- for accessories), though if you want to take a line-in and use onboad mic at the same time, you'd need the newer one. I had an original Duet and I got rid of it as it was constantly glitching with whichever OS was before Yosemite. As said above though, get one of the newer ones, I just upgraded to the new OS and my old Apogee is having some minor issues. Both are great and pop up used quite a lot.
