Cheap and free VSTs (mostly for the full version of Kontakt)

Since getting my NI Komplete Kontrol I've been having major GAS for VSTs. In my hunt I've found a couple of sites that pretty good for these.

http://vstbuzz.com/ - they have a weekly offer on one or two VSTs which is pretty good. Typically 50-90% off. They also have a bunch of cheap VSTs (I'm looking at Votox XS for €9.99) - http://vstbuzz.com/store/ and some really nice freebies here: http://vstbuzz.com/freebies/. Feroyn's Flute is what I used at the end of last month's comp challenge entry: https://soundcloud.com/mornats/drops

http://www.sampleism.com/ - they have some nice looking deals too but I've yet to check out the quality of what they offer on there. Worth a look though.

As stated in the title, most if not all of these will require the full version of Kontakt and won't work in the free Kontakt player. They have to pay a licence fee to use the free player so most of the cheap ones don't do that.

Some unusual patches at £2.00 a go, from Spitfire Audio.

A nice list for stuff under $60.00.
(VI Control).

Also over at VI Control, seven pages of mainly Kontakt freebies.

Just grabbed that. Love the sound of it. It's quite unique isn't it? It'll stand out nicely in a mix.

I also went for Scary Strings, Hensons Frozen Strings and ThunderVox from the Spitfire Audio lab range. They give the money to charity so worth a punt without hearing them first.

Ha,ha, I pretty much have all those. Although originally, quite a few were free.
But, even at a couple of quid a go (and for charity at that), well worth it.

Just a heads up, any one with the full version of Kontakt, will have the full library with it.
The Orchestral patches, although now old and limp sounding against the new libs,
do have plenty going for them. Just a little bit of work needed.
Mike Verta, has a demo with just the Kontakt VSL sounds.

They're real instruments that have been sampled to the point where you can play your own melodies using a midi keyboard and have them sound fairly similar to the real thing. Some are very well done and will adapt the sound based on the velocity of your playing.

I have to stop and carefully read the descriptions of some as it can be hard to tell if they're premade loops or proper sampled virtual instruments.

Download the free Kontakt Player from Native Instruments and have a bash. It comes with a small selection of virtual instruments. I'll dig out a thread on here where we've listed a bunch of other free ones.

Found another site listing a whole host of free Kontakt (full version usually) virtual instruments: http://bigcatinstrum...blogspot.co.uk/

Looks like Spitfire Audio are giving away a little freebie very soon (well for folks who donated in the £2.00 Labs section).
Check your inbox on Feb 23rd. :)

I used Arcane for the vocals on the end of this track: https://soundcloud.com/mornats/anyway - it sounds epic.

 • 3 weeks later...

A few days ago, I won an online competition and picked up this prize from Embertone....
If I get time (busy, so unlikely), I might give it a run in this month's writing challenge
