I just had a thought about putting on new strings.

I think it makes a difference with the tension/tone and the way the string behaves or lasts. Feel free to disagree. while putting on my new 5 string set, i noticed as i was winding on the tuner peg the string would try to naturally twist.

So.

When winding and the string is loose (when the string gets tighter) hold as hard as you can on the string by the nut and let the ball end fall/twist into its natural position in the bridge ( ooh you filthy buggers). THen pull the ball end in to the bridge and tighten up. Im pretty sure if you don't do this it has a negative affect on the winding of the string. Thus effecting the natural position of the windings of the string. wether its unwinding or winding too tight I'm not sure.

Just a thought.
