Replacing broken nut

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

So-I defretted an old encore as a project and am really happy with it, filled slots with veneer, profiled, lemon oiled.....it's really nice. I then decided in my wisdom to change - rather than file down- the nut....and it the prices of removing said nut, chipped the wood on the neck directly behind the nut 😩
I managed to salvage it, reattached it and all is good....however, I now need to fit the replacement nut.....would I be better just filling the space left by the previous nut and then cutting and filing to fit or should I use the existing slot and file away to fit? The new nut is a std height so needs quite a bit off the bottom of it to bring it down to fretless height......
Not sure any if this makes sense-but any tips/advice would be hugely appreciated !
Cheers!
Matt
