Passive pups with Active circuitry

Hi all,

This has more than likely been asked a thousand time before so apologies in advance.

I have a 1985 Washburn Force series B-42 headless with red binding. The bass is somewhat road worn and weighs a ton, however, it plays beautifully and the neck profile is very jazz like.

It is fitted with bridge and neck soap bar pups, both original Washburn passives, 3 way selector switch, front / back vols and tone.

Is it possible / safe introduce an active circuit to the existing pups??

absolutley - have two basses here with upgraded wizards and j-east's , all the wizards are passive

also have a j-east in my status and have used it with both passive and active pickups the main difference being the active pups sound huge compared to the passives
