I have an Ashdown 5=15 mini rig.
It's a 2 x 10 cab with a seperate amp.
This amp will drive a second cab.
Now, my question is can I buy 2 more 10 inch spearkers and put them in a home made cab and increase my volume?
I really like the Ashdown, but finding a matching cab is difficult.

I'm thinking 2 x 8 ohm, 100 watt speakers in paralell will provide me with the 4 ohms needed. but will they need a crossover?
And will they remain at 100 watts output or as the impedance drops will the power increase.
Or would finding a 4 ohm 12 or 15 inch speaker and installing that compliment the sound better?
Finding a 4ohm 100 watt speaker is not proving particularly easy...

The best (simplest) thing to do if you wanted to make your own cab is make a 2x10 8ohm. So 2x16 ohm speakers, no crossover needed if no tweeter.
Adding the extra 8ohm cab to what I assume is already an 8ohm ashdown cab will get you to 4ohm so you don't need to build a 4ohm cab.

The extra speakers will give you a small volume increase and if the cab gives out any extra power at 4ohm then that will give you a very very small increase in volume. So yes if you need a little extra volume then why not. But don't expect miracles.

I won't assume anything about how much you know already but building a good cab is much harder than you think. And takes a lot of research and even then understanding driver specs fully and how they function in a cab and port tuning etc is an art form. I only know the basics myself and I'm trying to learn a bit more about the advanced stuff currently.

So maybe you could just copy the design of your existing cab and find drivers that match the ashdown specs etc. Just to make it easier.

There's some very knowledgeable members on this site who I'm sure will give advice if you really want to build your own cab. There's some build threads too that you can learn from.

Might be a good idea to give Ashdown tech support a ring and check on the lowest output imedance that the head will run at - the online manual states 8ohm for the five-fifteen head and lists minimum impedance for the MAG and ABM heads at 4ohm.

Indeed. Although since it does have a output for another cab I would of thought it was 4-8ohm. But best check the back of the amp or ask ashdown.

The situation has been cured by a vintage US made Peavey, so heavy it needs wheels.
But so cheap it couldn't be left homeless.

If it's a 4Ω cab that you've just bought, be careful & check your amp's specs. I've a funny feeling that the 4Ω min load would include the load from the internal speakers (which is probably 8Ω).

Thanks, It's not an extension cab, but the purchase of a hefty Peavy combo thats solved my problem.
Which means a redundant 5-15 ministack which I shall have to get round to advertising.
