Welcome to the Basschat Noodle Bar™!

The rules are simple:

Record yourself playing bass for up to 60 seconds. You can record whatever the heck you like: an original riff or lick; something from your band’s own repertoire; or a well-known piece you’re currently practicing. Doesn’t matter what. Just record something.

Make sure it’s bass only: no other instruments. FX and pedals are allowed, as are simple click tracks and metronomes.

Upload your recording to SoundCloud, YouTube or another music-sharing platform of your choice. Once you’re finished, post the link to your recording in this thread. Job done!
Or in short: PRESS RECORD > PLAY BASS > PRESS STOP!

The deadline for entries is midnight on Friday 30th September.

Ok here is my entry. Its a simple noodle that was inspired by the Vietnam war. It was longer but I had to cut it down.
In the spirit of the comp I've tried to do it in one take but I didn't set the level properly on the iPad (internal mic) and I think it sounds a bit weak. And that round sound string noise I generate is a bit much tho I was sitting close to the iPad too. Normally I play with flats.

Oh and hopefully we will get more entries than last month please.

What a nice little piece, indeed very mellow.

I thought I'd do a beautiful melody evoking that feeling of autumnal colour, kids scuffing leaves and playing conkers, hot chocolate round the fire and burning folks who've tried to blow up parliament.
Then I thought, sod that, I'll do this instead:

Cheers, wish i had wrote it, credit should go to "wayne Johnson" mine is a bass adaptation of a very nice track called
"Marina" from the "Wayne johnson Trio" album is called "Grasshopper".
Very hard to get on cd, but worth tracking down if not just for some of the best bass playing iv have ever heard by Jimmy Johnson,
its a must have for anyone who like melodic bass playing, and top draw guitar and drums without it getting too tec arsey.
i like yours i can hear the theme you was aiming for in the playing, it does capture that chaos well. well done. :)

It's the venerable Wal in full active mode going into a one channel of a DBX compressor - set with some limiter gain, half attack and long release/medium ratio into a 3 Leaf envelope follower pedal (Bass Direct do them), then into the other channel of compression with more limiter gain, less attack, higher ratio and more release and recorded direct onto Ableton 9.
I've been known to use the 3Leaf, plus a Qtron and DOD envelope pedals driven by Darkglass tube distortion - which gives a most interesting effect!

3 Leaf will check that out,
i do use the qtron on a few songs but this sounds more ,,,, fluid.
you say your wal is going into it,...
when i use my wal into the qtron its almost like its overdriving it
so i had to put a volume knob on the qtron.
i have the same problem with the G&L , as both active and high o/p
but when i use my jazz it seems to wah better,,,
so i dont think the qtron likes a hi input sig,,,,
have you found anything like this ?

That's why I compress both going in and coming out of the FX.
That way I can choose compression settings that drive the fx best, and can limit dynamic frequency shifts from their output.
At present I'm using the fx loop on my amp for all FX, but I'm going to divide that loop into 2 or 3 so 1 will be envelope followers and distortion, 1 for Wah/expression and 1 for a Digitech Whammy pedal our guitarist insists I get with blend controls for each.
Then I can have natural tone, via initial compression on the amp mixed with a blend of 3 lots of individually compressed FX loops.
Or at least that's the plan!

A mellow offering from the House of Ag

Another nice mellow noodle this month. I enjoyed the well rounded mellow tone. It's maybe the pic on soundcloud but it did envoke a feeling of autumn.

I have very much enjoyed all this months offerings from the mellow to the dark to the mad ...
not sure which category mine falls into but here it is...

https://soundcloud.com/timothy-terrence-higgins-iv/alt-ohm

recorded straight onto my phone with acoustic [ H.B. fretless ] and it sounds like it !
As a fellow record with a phone guy I know the quality is never good but I do find it interesting to hear all the nuances picked up by the mic, the string/finger noise and even the movement of the player. It's a shame it doesn't really pic up the bass frequencies better.
Anyhow I thought your noodle sounded good, I know it will of sounded better in person too.

Just back from holiday, don't know if I'll have time to defend my title this month :(
If I do it will probably be fretless, as main bass is still in bass hospital having keyhole surgery. Was hoping it would be finished, but it hasn't even been started yet :(

The noodle bar has struggled of late for entries so it would be great to get another entry in :)

Ha! The injection was in to the tendon on the palm side where the finger meets the palm. The tendon has a thickening at that point, and catches on the retaining hoop the tendon passes through. This causes the finger to lock (called trigger finger) and gets to the point that the flexors can't straighten the finger unassisted. The Cortizone in the injection eventually shrinks the nodule on the tendon. It was 18 months since I last had it done...
