Stingray pickup wiring problema

Something is amiss with the wiring on my Stingray. It sounds as if one of the coils is not properly connected. When I push down on the pickup while playing, the sound suddenly becomes full again, as if the connection is being reinstated. Then I let go of it, and the volume and tone drops off significantly. So I decided to pull out the pup and take a look at it. The bare wire is loose and unattached! Is that cause for concern? Where should it be? And the solder joint of the black wire looks a bit weak.

Bass - 2004 Stingray 5 w/piezo bridge
Pickup - Duncan SMB-5a 3C

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Mike

Doesn't look like a standard humbucker design and the photo doesn't provide enough information to guess how the coils are connected. If you can't find an obvious place which has a blob of solder and looks like it might have had something attached, you may be better off emailing to Seymour Duncan and asking for help.
