Huge war on talkbass about these :-) which one are you looking at - the tube preamp one (GB streamliner clone apparently) or the ss one ?

I got one and sent it almost straight back.

SS version, clipping came in quite early on all basses, but with the American Special, it was coming in stupid early.

Which led me to use the pad.
Which lost a LOT of volume as it's -15db.

I was thinking about the tube preamp one. Wasn't aware there was a solid state one

Had a bvp5500 its a very good and well made amp. However things to note its heavy and its only approx 350w rms at 4 ohm and approx half 8 ohm.
The veyrons seem to get a lot of positive reviews and I believe they were tested to be in the region of 500 - 700watts rms I can't remember the exact figure.
If I had to buy a new amp and was on a budget I would possible buy the veyron tube version. And I would definitely own a bvp5500 again although its needs 4 ohms to really get going or a very efficient cab or lots of drivers. Its not underpowered but its not the loudest amp.
Probably the best amp that you can buy brand new for around £200.

Cheers,

I think I've switched tack. I'm gonna sell my 5 string fretless and the back up amp and then get a hartke ha5500.
