NBD - Spector NS2000

Manage to acquire the aforementioned bass from another member of this wondrous forum. Many thanks to StevieE who should really be frequenting his local Mental Health ward for parting with this.

It's my birthday tomorrow so I thought "why not". Even though Sean (BillyApple) had always "[i]bigged them up[/i]" I was only half convinced - after all we do with our own gear don't we??

Anyway, I get the bass home but the puppy wants to go out - we bump into most of her friends so we're out for over an hour and a half. Get home and there are things to do round the flat which means I don't get to play for a bit. When I do get a chance, I plug in the bass, and lo and behold the pre-amp battery is dead - it would normally take hours finding a new one but I hunt around, find the batteries I'd seen earlier and fit one.

Now, my expectations are not huge - yeah, we know of the Spector reputation but all the big manufacturers have got that haven't they??

Plug the bass in - the neck might not be [i]the[/i] best ever but it's got a nice, easy to get your hands round profile and the balance is pretty much where you want it to be so we're off to a good start.

A few twiddles on the knobs and there's the tone I'm looking for,[i] in fact it's the tone I've been looking (listening??) for for years[/i]. Solid, fat punch that would take Mike Tyson off his feet. Great for the finger work, but what about when you slap? Again, a slight adjustment on the pan knob and we have the tone one pays considerably more than the price I did (such good VFM I'm ashamed to write it here).

An hour and half later, the puppy intervenes with her "[i]but you've never ever played with me[/i]" look and I succumb to her charms and reluctantly take her out again.

The nub of this? Sometimes reputations are worth what they are - sometimes they're not. I've bought loads of basses on reputation and been let down. No names mentioned. On this occasion, when I wasn't quite expecting too much, [size=5]my mind was blown [size=4]- fabulous tones, nice weight and balance, and genuine VFM.[/size][/size]

I've had one of these before....a lovely flametop amber burst NS2000/4.

They are really good basses that get overshadowed by the Rebops and Euros (admittedly much more expensive basses but the cheaper one has equally good build quality and also a slightly less aggressive sound which suits some better.)

I had one many years back and sold it only as it was 4 string and I played 5 string basses.
Maybe I'm biased as I own several Spectors but this brand has never let me down, regardless the price level.

Thankfully my sanity is saved by owning another one of these awesome basses, otherwise it wouldn't have gone anywhere:)

I'm really pleased you like it so much mate, and to find "the tone" from it is awesome. Sorry about the battery though, didn't even think to test that before we did the deal!
