Advice welcome - Bergantino HD210 or Barefaced Big Baby 2

Hello all,

I'm looking for a cab to pair with a 550W head, wanting clear mids and highs and can fit in my car (back seat as the boot is tiny).
I've seen and heard the Bergantino and have been most impressed, likewise with the Barefaced.

Difference in cost not a big issue; if anyone has experience with both / either I'd be keen to find out. Being quite hard to find in shops, I feel I need to research properly....

Thanks

Totally different league in terms of build quality. Bergantino make real pro-level gear.

Not sure I've eve heard a Berg cab I didn't like. Definitely sure I've never heard a Barefaced I did.

Bass Direct almost always have a good range of Berg in stock and the Gallery in London generally have some too. The HD series are sometimes a bit harder to track down though because so many people have moved away from ceramic magnets. They sound great when whacked up loud in a live band though :)

If you let people know where you are then I'm sure someone will volunteer to let you test theirs, or if close to brighten go and see Alex. I've been gigging a gen 1 super 12t for six years, still looks as new (easy to touch up) and the only "non pro" aspect is the handles which was addressed in later generation cabs. I think Alex missed out by not fitting recessed handles but he had good reasons not to.

Thanks for the info. You must be the first person I've seen not to like BF stuff!

Yes, I see BassDirect have several interesting items; might be worth the 200 mile round trip to visit them....

Welcome to basschat - the home of contrarian, but polite, debate. 😀

Some folk get heavily invested in a brand, or a set view (P bass with 20 year flats through a selmer amp ).. use your own ears. Personally I find it takes me a while to dial in a sound on a new rig.

Bergs and Barefaced are some of the best cabs ever made. If you're short list is between these you're in the right ball park.

At this level there is little difference in quality, ability or design. Bergs and BF will have differences in look and sound so any preferences are purely down to personal taste.

I used Berg's for 8 years. In that time I had 7 cabs, AE and CN 12's and 10's, and I would recommend them to anyone.

I moved from Bergs to Barefaced cabs (I now have 3 of them) and couldn't be happier with the tone, volume and weight.

One difference, I now run 2 Super Compacts to get the same volume I used to get from 3 112 Bergs, so I don't need my 2 ohm amps any more.

Big baby 2 is light as a feather..love mine. Its 8 ohm though so check your output for that.

So is the berg from what I recall ..

I suspect you're referring to the impedance, but in case it was the weight....

According to http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Berg_HD_112_210_410_212.html the Berg HD210 is 54lbs / 24.5kg

According to http://barefacedbass.com/product-range/Big-Baby-2.htm the BB2 is 13kg/29 lbs with the steel grill and even lighter with the cloth....

The HD is a ceramic speaker so that's where the weight is coming from.

The lighter weight Berg 2x10 is the new(ish) HDN model
http://bergantino.com/product/hdn210-loudspeaker/

That comes in at 33lbs / 15KG

The previous model was the CN which is the same weight but voiced a bit differently and with a 'carbon-like' finish.

Owned and played both. In my book, the Berg build quality is better than the BF. The BB2 finish always bugged me. I am glad I never hit it hard.
Anyway, the BB2 may be considered as a FRFR cab (full range flat response) whereas the HD210 is definitely more colored.

Nowadays I am playing a more colored 2x 115" cab setup.

The HD210 is definitely a weighty cab both physically and sonically but I'm one who has tried D class and neo speakers and has gone back to ceramic and solid state amplification.
Re the Bergs- I think those who have them, rate them. They are like rocking horse sh*t on here- I'd love another HD112.

I've never play berg but I own a supertwin and a 2x10 from barefaced. These are both 4ohms and are a real one cab solution to a bulk and weight problem. The 2x10 is resident in a place I play every Sunday and the supertwin goes everywhere else with me yet can be soft enough to play in the living room without annoying the neighbours.

The Barefaced 12 inch driver is a wonder. Sound wise, little comparison to the Bergantino CN112 I had, Barefaced beat it on everything but build quality (Super Compact is what I am talking about).

If you want performance, Barefaced is certainly the way to go. However, what I would say is a 2x10 and a 1x12 are different beasts. I would never choose a 2x10 over a 1x12. I would look at comparing the Barefaced to a 12 inch (or 2x12) Berg.

Just to follow this up, I was not a fan of the Gen 1 / Gen 2 Barefaced cabs when I first tried them, genuinely underwhelmed. It is the Gen 3 models with the new driver that stepped things up. I do still use a Gen 2 Super Midget occasionally as it does sound good with the SC.

I think that's because Berg owners buy them and realise just how good they are - whereas other brands fall into the 'emperor's new clothes' bracket and consistently appear for sale here. . .

That last post is a special kind of stupid.
Berg owners are different from the plebs then?

Omfg stop talking down your nose.

molans attitude has of course absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he runs a shop and BF are mainly a direct seller.
