Wiring question

I picked up a 1960s Kay SG copy about a year ago for £20 as the signal was intermittent at best and has now cut out entirely.

I've bought a soldering iron (I've never soldered before and no nothing about electronics).

Is there anything obviously the matter with it? I'd like to sort it but don't have enough invested in it that I want to go to a repair tech.

Thanks.

There appears to be a broken earth wire between the tone pot and the output socket.

Yeah I noticed that, I've tried holding the two bits together when plugged in but it didn't really make a difference.

Im slightly out of my depth with this lol!

I've soldered the earth wire together but I'm still getting white noise.

I'm not sure if the input jack is kaput.

Is it worth buying something like this and just replace all the wiring - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132087206274

With guidance would that work?

It all looks so oxidised on the outside that I'd assume it's the same inside.
1st check the pickup.. hold red wire to jack tip, looks like the other two colours (if they both go to earth) to the cable jack plug earth.
If the pickup gives something, bin the pots and jack socket and put new ones in. Make a note of all connection colours. The capacitor is probably ok.

I'm with Hubrad on this. What you have in there all looks in bad condition.

The pickup is probably OK. I would replace everything else.

You can Google to find a wiring diagram and Northwestguitars are a good supplier for the pots and socket.

You can get some new wire for the connections from Maplin, if you don't have some already.

Here's a link to some suitable pots. I use the linear ones.

Here's a jack socket
