Pleasantly surprised also to see The God Machine mentioned, whom my ex-wife used to manage back in the early 90s. Our son Jimmy is named after their bass player, Jimmy Fernandez who sadly died of a brain hemorrhage, which brought the band's career to a stop far too soon! These days my musical tastes have mellowed somewhat, and one band I absolutely love are The Mummers. If you like Bacharach, Carole King, Scott Walker, Todd Rundgren etc, then you should like this band. I adored the first 2 Dredg albums back in the early 00's but I don't think anyone I mentioned them to had heard of them. Basschatters of a certain age may have caught them touring with Rush on the "Tour of the Hemispheres". They were incredible. A sort of Pop/Rock/Prog/Zappa amalgam. And they even managed to sneak on to TOTP... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUhc8-vUp8o Their latter-day Bassist, Dave Myles was a brilliant player - fantastic plectrum-Precision sound. There was a semi-legendary local band called "Sleeze Patrol" on the go at the time, with a singer named Punky Wayne. The band were fairly atrocious, a triumph of image over substance. Wayne was often to be seen strutting and sleazing around town with his paunch leaking out of a rising sun T shirt, back-combed jet black hair and eyeliner inexpertly applied, affecting a reasonable impression of excess Jack Daniels intake. [/quote] The Grays (very sadly only) album gets played to death on a regular basis in my house! Utterly brilliant from start to finish. Pretty much anything that came out from the folks involved in Jellyfish is: A. well worth tracking down, and B. generally pretty obscure... One really great off-shoot from the Jellyfish inspired PowerPop movement was Randy & the Bloody Lovelies. Basically a vehicle for Randy Wooten, and only two albums, but good stuff.
