What gauge for E flat?

Just out of interest really. What gauge do you use for E flat standard and drop C#?

I play mostly in C# I'm thinking of .110-.045.

Should work fine, I used to do this with 45-105 gauge, including some drop C# songs.

Play the biggest set you feel comfortable with.

Currently I've got 43 - 136 flats on my 5 string P bass and 45 - 130 rounds on the others.

OK I don't slap or bend strings, but if you don't either go as big as you can. My experience, with my style, I usually get a better sound out of bigger strings.

I was thinking about 110-50 I'll go for that.

I used 110-50 for C# for years but recently "stepped up" to the D'Addario EXLBT set (120-60). Much improved the feel for me as I did find the 110 a little too floppy when tuned down that far. I previously used Elites so YMMV with regards to this, but the extra tension in the D'Addarios was a definite plus for me.

The only downside is they're nickels and I prefer the feel and sound of steels. I don't believe D'Addario have any plans to offer the balanced tension sets in steel, so I've just got a set of their EPS230 ProSteels (110-55) to see how their 110 compares to the Elites I used to use. I suspect I'm going to be stuck in the middle of a trade-off, with preferring the tension of the EXLBT but the sound of the EPS230.

That's correct, no plans to offer balanced tension in ProSteels at the moment. As you suggest EXL160BT (.050-.120) or EPS230 (.055-.110) would both be good choices for C# tuning. There are quite a few users of EXL160BT on here who down tune.

If desired you could purchase single strings, we have a full selection of ProSteel strings available from .028 to .145 gauge.
