It's pretty silly really otherwise someone would have already done it... Class A/B power section, old school power supply, min 400W Form factor a la Eden WT550 or Ashdown CTM30 (i.e. small and narrow but not necessarily lightweight!) All valve preamp - running at proper plate voltages please Keep it simple with gain (with the ability to get some lovely dirt if needed), three or four band active EQ, volume Min speaker load 2 ohms (yes...) [/quote] Because the WA can do 2-ohms, it got me wondering about the R-400, so I asked Leszek if it was possible: 'Not as it is, but for 50€ we can do modification on 2Ohm, no problem.' Chienmortbb Posted March 8, 2017 Share Posted March 8, 2017 If Handbox use a Trace/Ashdown MOSFET type output stage, it is easy as you just add more MOSFETSs. You may not get a great deal more power though as the the power supply is unlikely to be able to supply much more unless it is stupidly over-spec'd and the heat-sinking/heat management may not be designed to cope with the extra heat. gillento Posted March 9, 2017 Share Posted March 9, 2017 Hey Merton, We are on the same page tone wise (Ashdown ABM et al....) I give another vote for the Mesa Walkabout. On paper it has "only" watts at 4 ohms. But in reality, I never reached its limits playing with the same cabs, the same bands I did with the ABM500. It has become my amp of choice!
