*** ON HOLD *** KK BabyBass KB1
£650

Recommended Posts

I got good mileage out of this bass for several years, at gigs where taking a 'real' DB was just too much like hard work. If you go to the KK website (http://baby-bass.com...c-upright-bass/) you'll see that I'm shown as the second 'Customer' in his photo gallery playing The Catch in Shoreditch.

What that doesn't show is that we were playing the upstairs bar which is reached by a spiral staircase. Even better, I had to dump Silvia and the bass on the pavement while I went looking for parking, so the BabyBass had to be carried up by all 5' of Silvia. Had I taken my double bass (which was Plan A) we would have been in a world of pain.

Then I bought a Takamine TB10 and, even though you wouldn't think they'd compete for the same gigs, I seem to reach for the TB10 rather than the KB1.

Shame, but it's time to move on.

In excellent condition, fully functional, no defects or scratches. Comes with original KK gigbag. Currently strung with really nice Silver Slaps with plenty of years left in them.

Realistically, for postage purposes this thing can be treated as a slightly over-sized electric bass. That said, I would far prefer to sell it face to face and let the buyer try it before parting with his hard-earned.

I'm in Harrow, a 5-minute walk from a Piccadilly Line station.

Here's the review I wrote in 2013: http://basschat.co.u...5-kk-baby-bass/

You really are selling pretty much everything :o
Never having played a KK bass before, but having tried a few EUB's
Are these prone to the usual "swivel" problems? Or does the small body help to prevent that?
Cheers HJ

Agreed, but you'll also notice that I'm not plucking (really hard) with the side of my fingers in quite the way that I'd pluck a DB.

I'm not playing it like a fretless electric either, but the technique is a bit of a hybrid.

Well, it is when I do it anyway.

:)

Having just got the five string KK Baby Bass, and with the experience of exactly one gig (four songs) I can confirm that she stays where you put her. For me, the back of the body rests nicely against my thigh and so I'm not supporting the bass at all. My specially designed comfort waist line (aka beer belly) rests neatly on the upper bout locking her in nicely ;)

Thanks for that helpful info JPJ. I had thought that the body shape on this would help prevent the swivel you get on some EUB's
In the video, it certainly looks very stable - but it's nice to hear other owners who find the same. PS. I also have one of those useful specially designed "comfort waistlines" :) (I knew it'd come in useful one day)
