Price or Trade Value : £899

For sale only, no trades please is my Unusual USA G&L L1000.

Regarded by many as Leo's best bass.

The previous owner advised me that he believed this to be a custom / special order G&L.

Curiously this has the headstock normally found on the SB 2 - The decal does have a just about visible outline around it, so possibly a rebadged SB 2 Neck? Please see photos.
I have also shown photos of neck heel / pocket.

I can't see a serial number in any of the usual G&L places.

The micro tilt mechanism appears to be over a partial date stamp, as can be seen on the photographs below.

I believe the lovely sparkly colour dates it to around the early 1990's

Very good overal condition given the age, say 8.5/10 - a few dings, scrapes here and there, some of the finish has chipped away near the neck pocket - I have shown this in the photographs.

Plenty of life in the frets.
There are hairline scuffs on the fretboard, the sort you get from cleaning / polishing too much from the looks of them - Again, I have tried to show this in the photographs.

Passive electronics ,series/parallel switch.
More tonal options than a Precision.
Passive but powerful MFD pickup in the Precision spot.
The pickup is a monster with three settings to give a variety of tones.
The three way switch is parallel, single coil and series with bass boost for the single MFD humbucker.

Comes with the G&L case - although the case feet have been bumped into the case housing - Again, shown in photographs.
I'm happy to swap out the case for something else if you'd prefer.

I'm in Chorley ,Lancashire.

Very nice indeed. What is the weight please and the nut width? Does the finish have a slightly metallic sheen, hard to tell from the pics.

On the finish, Yes -I described it as a sparky colour above - a subtle metallic flake, sheen. Difficult to describe and photograph.

Thanks for info. It does look like an SB-2 neck then. I found a 2010 thread on bassesbyleo.com about what I think must be this same bass (I don't think there are too many like this around!) which also mentions a 1992 date in the pickup cavity.

lovely, it should be pre-late-1985 since they started routing the control cavity from the back then, thus by metall plate under the pots and switches.

Post Edited - went to get a pic of full neck plate as requested and the request had gone by the time I'd posted back.

Yep - full neck plate here:
As a non G&L expert can I ask the significance of the neck plate?

G&L changed the 3 bolt neck plate for 6 bolt around end of 90'..
Morover serial numbers appears on neck plate so i guess here are the reason of the question.
