All this talk of hypnotic bass lines, I have to post this one.

One note bass line and it's almost perfect. If Clive from Lowestoft is reading this (Sorry chap I can't remember your BC ID) then a knowing nod will be the response.

Brad - 20th Century (Stone Gossard on Guitar)

Oh and check the PP bass!

Guilty pleasure: Van Morrison, Brown Eyed Girl. The energy of the song is, for me, entirely driven by the off-the-beat bass line.

Just downloaded an excellent tab posted by Constantine Isslamow available for free as part of his YouTube post. Looking forward to having a go at over the weekend https://youtu.be/GNgVAI4OGLs

Just had Can You See The Real Me (The Who) come up on the 'learn for rehearsal' list. Yikes! Doesn't seem too hard but a huge amount of pentatonic noodling up the dusty end. Really looking forward to having a bash at this one though.

I think I'd add yet another choice from Geddy.

Hey thanks for that. He's pretty amazing isn't he? I've just paid a visit to Spotify to revisit some of Rush's greatest hits. Which is your favourite album of theirs?

Well I'm a child of the 80's so a big fan of Moving Pictures, Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Hold Your Fire & especially Power Windows.

Saying that, now I think my favourite is Clockwork Angels. If that does prove to be their last album, they went out on an absolute high IMO.

Wasnt sure if I ought to mention the bros Gibb on here but seeing as you have (bravo) I'll venture to include just about any bassline in any of their tunes...cant think of another combo that use musical basslines the way they do...immense.

No love for Louis Johnson's part on "Billie Jean" ? you can't sit still...

MJ has some awesome and iconic bass lines and no doubt whatsover and Billie Jean was defiinitely one of those!

This little number by Charlie Puth (330 MILLION + YouTube hits so far) is completely made by the bass line starting at 48s in.

PS I LOVE that tone, but I've been told that the only way to get that is with a P Bass. Is that correct? Is there not a pre-amp pedal that can do the same?

The Stranglers - Down in the Sewer - final movement. What got me into listening to bass many many years ago and still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

I was also a fan of The Cure a very long time ago and Primary is still a big hit for me. Maybe not technically challenging, but 2 basses....

Ever?... tricky one that, quite subjective. My faves at the mo' though are any of Andy Rourke's early upbeat lines, driving and melodic.

I like his lines a lot too. He needed to be like that though. I'm saying no more than that.

After weeks of constant bullying from a certain Mr Al Krow, I'd like to add throw one of my favourite bass lines into the mix.
It's nothing complex, but the simple, repetitive, hypnotic groove courtesy of the legendary Jah Wobble is a work of minimalistic genius.

Well I knew that you had a treasure trove of great bass lines gleaned over 30 years of bass playing that the world would be the richer place for you sharing...although I'm pretty sure I'd given up nagging you to do so ages ago! :D
