Yes it is the cricket ground. I grew up in Canterbury and cycled past it every day on the way to school. Happy days.

The last time I was there was 20 years ago for a County match.

With the game pretty much wrapped up there was Curtley Ambrose guarding the boundary in front of us. A bunch of us invited him to come and have a beer with us - so he stepped over the rope and did exactly that.

:)

Didn't some English cricketer get spotted having a quick drag on a spliff while fielding on the boundary at some Caribbean ground?

Or am I hallucinating?

Kinda spooky you mention the band Egg. 2 of my friends were both members of that band at different times, and i also have
their first 2 CD's, which were Albumen and Travelator.

I've also jammed with the Scott brothers who were founding members of Egg

:) Cool!

Not that spooky though, considering your Egg is still fresh, whilst mine is excruciatingly rotten :)
(for the uninitiated, Fleabag's Egg is from Oxford and still active, whilst mine had one or some member(s) from the Canterbury area and became defunct in the early 70s).

Never realised that Al was a Montclair boy ... I just assumed the Wailers were all Jamaicans.

I've known Albert since grade school, he lived across the street from my house.

IMO Albert's rock and blues guitar style westernised Bob's songs, positioning it for more mass appeal.

They weren't really anything to do with Canterbury, although Dave Stewart joined Hatfield and the North some years later. Think they were all London boys.

I wasn't there, but i did go one better and had jam with them and friend Jerry, who was the 2nd guitarist i think. The first guitarist was Mark Revell, another friend of mine but left many years ago.

Just a thought .. look for VENICE BEACH track by The Egg on yootoob. Guitar played by my pal Jerry

Never mind - here it is
