Fitting custom shop pickups to a left handed P

Hi all

I'm toying with the idea of upgrading the pickup in my p bass. I'm tempted by either the Fender Custom Shop '62 or the Seymour Duncan Antiquity II.

However, my bass is a lefty and both pickups seem to come mounted on a brass plate shaped for a right hander. I assume I'd have to unsolder it, turn it face down and solder the pickup back on? Would that work? I've got a soldering iron but im not that practiced with it so if there was a way of fitting without taking a soldering iron to an expensive pickup that would be great!

On a different note, does anyone have experience with the two pickups I'm looking at and any thoughts on how they compare?

Thanks all!

Srwu

The pickup bobbins are connected to the brass plate by a short length of wire, and sit on foam pads that are glued to the plate (see pic). You would have to remove and re-fix the pads on the other side of the plate. It might be possible just to bend the wire round from the solder joint to the other side of the plate but you may struggle for room in the bottom of the cavity. Alternatively, if you do re-solder it, I imagine it would take a pretty powerful soldering iron to melt the joint and then re-make it, and to do it quickly enough not to damage the coils.

Do-able, but requires a bit of care.

How about a nice, hand-wound P-bass pup?

I've used pups from Jess Loureiro. They're a bargain and sound good to my ears. I'd record you something but a certain cab maker has borrowed them and not sent them back.
