It's stunning!

I've never played one or heard one in action... what do they sound like?

Great full sound. Being active and mahogany  it’s got a great frequency from the lows you’d expect to super clean highs. The ebony board gives each note fantastic definition too.

Way better looking

I owned an '84 around the early 2000's ,  and i've kicked my own head for selling it.

Single , beautiful sounding Bill Lawrence pickup with genuine Ebony cover.  Tone tone and more tone.

Gutted of Oxfordshire

I didn't realise it was a Bill Lawrence pick up, which are fabulous as you say.

Makes this an even better instrument IMO.

Interesting preamp - what does it do?

Volume (push/pull) pick attack on pull (4khz boost) and a tone which is essetially a semi parametric boost with a small mini pot on the circuit board to adjust the frequency centre. Toggle switch is a coil tap, humbucker/single coil.
