Phil Jones Bass cabs - anyone use them??

I am thinking of looking for a secondhand PJB cab for rehearsals and lower volume gigs. Does anyone here use them and what do they think of them? Also, can anyone tell me what the difference is between the various models, the C4, C4lite & 4B cabs, etc? I would be using it with a Mark Bass LM3 amp, playing various types of rock and blues rock.

I normally use a Berg 410 cab (with ceramic speakers) and whilst I am not expecting to get exactly the same sort of sound, I wonder what the 5” speakers sound like in comparison. I did see someone using one in a small bar whilst on holiday last year and it seemed to work pretty well for that type of gig, but I would like to know what guys who use them regularly make of them??

I have 2 C4s and a 4B. Very clean sounding and a surprising amount of wellie for their size. 4B, which is a larger cab, but with the same drivers as the C4, has more bottom end - an ideal single cab for small jobs. For rock, you will need multiples to shift the air. They are quite inefficient, too, so soak up the power. I use an Aguilar AG700 with mine. Add the cost of several cabs to it and it isn't a cheap set-up. The beauty of them for me is that I can take as many/few as I need. They're an easy carry - a few more trips to the car, but no hernia, which at my age (63) is a definite bonus. You really need to try them to see if the sound suits you. I tried out the first one I bought with a LM3 in the shop and the combination worked very well. Hope this is of some help.

I've got the chance of buying a 4B secondhand. Been weighing up if I would use it enough to justify buying but think that I might go for it. I wouldn't use itfor my normal rock gigs, but there has been the odd gig where I could have done with a smaller quieter cab.

I've got 2 x C4, 1 x C4 Lite and a 6B

The 6B has never been gigged and I'm not likely to use it if you'd be interested?

You're welcome to try them if you want to cross over the border into North Yorkshire.

I have a 4b,a c4 and a c8.
The 4b is definitely nicer sounding than the c4 although they have the same speakers apparently. The c8 is simply awesome. I bought the c4 to go with the c8 but to be honest it's unnecessary,the c8 is plenty loud enough for any gig I do and sounds better alone. I don't think you'll regret buying a 4b if you have the chance, or any pjb cab for that matter.

Interesting. I like the combination of a C4 and 4B. Two C4s is good, but the C4/4B combo has more weight. Would you say the C8 is better than two C4s?

I don't have two c4s so can't compare that combination to my one c8. I have used the 4b with the c8 on top which was great.I'd love to pick up another c8 for a super awesome rig!
