For sale is this beautiful bass. I bought this bass last year, had it set up, checked over, had the frets leveled, the whole thing. After a while however I realized I want something a bit more old fashioned and passive.

These are the specs:

Custom body (two part mahogany with a flame maple cap) made by luthier Paul Rose
Lakland Joe Osborne Neck (satin finish)
USA Hipshot Ultralite tuners
USA Hipshot A style bridge
Bartolini Pickups
18v Aguilar OPB-2 preamp, Vol/Vol - Bass/Treble - Active/Passive Switch.

Much of this was fitted by the excellent Martin Peterson at The Gallery.

It produces tones similar to a Stingray, with a lovely amount of growl, but with the added flexibility of being able to adjust the volume of each pickup individually, which, when combined with the 18v preamp, gives a huge range of tones. This bass plays incredibly well, the neck has the classic jazz feel and the satin finish is lovely. It is currently strung with Dunlop Super Brights with low action. There are a few small battle scares on the body due to it being treated wood and not lacquer, but they are mostly minor scuffs that could easily be buffed out and oiled, I have pictured any that stand out.

Comes with a slightly messy but fully functional and structurally sound Hiscox flight case, as well as a teardrop, stingray style scratch plate.

Looking for a sale, but will consider a trade for a 4 string Precision, Fender preferred but other brands considered.

I am based in Dorchester, Dorset, I can meet up in a reasonable radius. Can deliver at buyers expense.

I owned this once, when it had passive electronics. The neck was beautiful, and the reason why I bought a lakland P 4 string straight after selling it when I stopped using 5'ers.
The body is very pretty too.

Thanks!
The neck is amazing, I believe it is compound radius, and the 35” scale means the bass sounds absolutely thunderous, it is truly impressive. The body is better in the flesh; I couldn’t get the flamey, quilted top to show up too much, better lighting and a better camera could have probably sorted that, I will see if I can get a better picture of the figuring soon.

I recall this from ages ago. What are the pick ups. Is it two soap bar style single coils side by side?
I believe, weirdly enough, that they are split coils in a soap bar. This gives it a really cool sound, when put together they sound like a fat humbucker, but the bridge soloed sounds almost like old school Mark King, think Standing in the Light album, and the neck pickup soloed sounds fat and creamy. Overall it was this unique pickup set that actually attracted me to this bass, unique, but familiar tones.

Bass is still available, here are some new photos, I tried to capture the finish a bit better.

I was the first owner of this bass.

This is what it looked like when new:

That's what it looked like when I bought it from you HJ, and how it looked when passed on to "lowregisterhead" ... I believe he was going to mod it. Such a pretty bass.

It has certainly been through a lot, right now it is a beast of a machine with top of the range hardware and electronics, sounds like nothing else. Cool to see the past owners on here, wish I could have contributed more to it's story than just a fret leveling!

I did indeed - in fact it's a different neck. The original had a tiny split in the back behind the nut which was stable, but when I stumbled on a new JO Skyline neck on eBay, it seemed a good opportunity to replace it. It ended up with a new neck, new tuners, new bridge, thru-stringing, battery compartment, preamp and controls... so only the pickup and body are original! Still a lovely thing. I'm tempted to buy it back, but I've got a full complement of 5's already. GLWTS.

Hi any sound samples.vids? Thanks
I am afraid I don't, I am a drummer first and foremost, so not many recordings on me playing bass out there and I have no way of recording anything high quality. I might give it a go with my phone but if it's bad I won't upload it, don't want to make it sound bad with a phone mic.

Oh, and the back of the body was sculpted at the top cutout and the neck joint...
