Fingerstyle or Plec? Or both?

Learned using a pick but after a couple of years I switched to fingerstyle and ever since have tended to avoid using a pick unless I absolutely have to.

I just prefer the fingersytyle sound, feel more involved with the instrument using my fingers and I don't miss the hassle of constantly dropping or losing picks.

Always fingers... did try a pick a long time ago but never got on with it, just didn't feel right...

Also the majority of stuff I play these days does not require a pick - which is lucky for me

I started with a pick and used one almost exclusively for years, then I moved to fingers for a while, but now I 've tended to go back to the pick again-doesn't seem such a no-no nowadays. Now I just use what ever suits the song best.

BOTH...used to use only fingers in my old band but since joining my alt rock 3 piece band i use a pick a lot more...for some of the grittier stuff it cuts through better.

Like the majority I say depends on the song and attack required, Thin Lizzy for example can't be played fingers or rather doesn't sound the same, I saw a band once and the bassist had a thumb type pick wore like a ring he could turn it round when needed to use it it looked really convenient I've not seen one since anyone know about them or where you get them or was I just imaging thats what it was

I prefer the sound and the rare times i cudnt get the sound i wanted i use a light double thumb type technique and that has always worked fine.

Or was it something 'out of this world' that you witnessed?

Predominantly fingers, but some songs just sound better with a plectrum so I will use one when the music suits it.

Fingers, nearly every time. It just suits what the groups I play in does. I very rarely reach for a plectrum!

Thats it! No.9501 I think! You don't see (or I haven't seen) many bass players using them though, wonder if you can get really thick ones for bassists

I use a pick for the guitar, and fingers for the bass. I love the sound of palm muted picking on bass, but generally don't like to use one.

95% Plectrum (Dunlop Tortex 'Purple' or Ernie Ball 'Hard') + 5% Fingers.

I started with a pick, then a bit of both - now I never use a plectrum. When I try it it just doesn't feel right and sounds too thin for me.

I'm mostly a fingers player but I'm learning to use a pick after 29 years of playing, after I made a list last year of my 10 favourite players and realised that 8 were pick players.

The Allen Woody Rumblekat does suit a pick I gotta say.

Both here, probably about 70% fingers and 30% other techniques (pick/slap/etc). I'll use whatever gets the job done to get the tone and feel I want in a song. Having good pick technique is just another tool in your arsenal, another set of tones with another set of possibilities.
