Muppet Posted July 31, 2007 Share Posted July 31, 2007 I put on a gig tonight night and the second band used an Ashdown MAG300 head with a Ampeg cab. After a couple of songs the cab went quiet but the amp still functioned, as did the DI signal to FOH. Unplugging the cab and waiting a while then plugging back in resolved the problem initially but then it happened again, so I jumped up on stage and swapped the head with my SVT4PRO that I brought along and no further problems. So, is this a failsafe in the cab or head, or a problem with the cab or head, anyone care to make an educated guess? S Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dood Posted July 31, 2007 Share Posted July 31, 2007 Could be anything really. Speaker cable and connections? maybe a dirty socket. I used to have an amp that would lose poweramp output. It ended up being the sockets for the effects loop. You know the contacts bypass when nothing is connected to the loop? Well, mine..ermm decided it wouldn't bypass every now and then! I have also seen a guitar amp that had the wrong (physical) sized fuse in the poweramp section. When the valves warmed the pins up they would disconnect the fuse and turn off the HT to the poweramp valves he he!!! I'd say to isolate the obvious first, before you worry about a faulty amp.
