I was practicing with the new Overwater (like got it last night) this morning when it just plummeted to the ground

This is a bass that's totally like, new, immaculate and unmarked!

I thought initially that I'd cocked up fitting the straplocks but no:



I checked it all round but there seems to be no obvious damage. It landed on its lower body edge on the carpet otherwise it would of been so easy to bend a tuner or a pot at the very least.

I emailed Bass Collection this morning but got no reply.

If you use one of these straps check it over. I don't jump around or anything like that either.

That happened to me Peter with an ageing Brooklyn Gear Strap - fixed it with a cable tie. Hope that bass is ok.

I replaced it with a Brooklyn Gear Al!!

I think I'll put cable ties in place on all my straps as a 'just in case' back up measure.

I've had a better look around and all seems tickety boo

Our singer had a similar thing happen with a Planet Waves strap.

It's a big, thick leather strap with straplocks for me every time

I've got 3 of this style of strap and I've just cable tied all of them at every plastic link. I have to say that the quality of the original, the Comfort 'Strapp', seems the best.

The Overwater seems a great bass Al. Extremely well made and solid (just as well) with a good tone. I'm a bit spoilt by the ACG pre-amp to be honest but I'll report back after practice tomorrow.

The action was very high and I've fitted nickels (Sunbeams), lowered the action two whole turns on the saddles and done the intonation. The action will go lower still but I'm happy for now.

That'd be where I had to remove some leather to fit the Schallers.

They are fine if a little untidy looking when the straplocks are removed.

Thanks for posting this..i have been using the Comfort Strapp,for all my basses,and although they are probally better quality,i have never thought of the possibilty that one of the four plastic links may break 'till now....cable ties,good idea as a precaution..Ady

I won't touch anything with a buckle-all leather or all fabric, with straplocks for me.

Trouble is for me that the most comfortable straps are the padded neophrene and elastic webbing type. The cable ties will prevent a re-occurrence and next time I'll source the original Strapp.

Glad to hear your expensive new bass is OK! Nightmare scenario.

I keep meaning to fit strap locks to my main bass, the strap's leather ends are pretty soft and they slip off easily. Can't imagine ever not having one hand on the neck but I'm tempting fate.

They are the best methinks, I've just ordered one for the Overwater. The way I fit the one on my Harlot is that the straplock goes on the outer hole and I pop the inner hole on the button 1st and the straplock goes on top. This means that not only does it give double protection (like 2 durex) but the straplock isn't under any strain and it doesn't 'squeak' when the bass moves while you're dancing around .

Should have used the Overwater comfort strap, Have gigged one for around 6 years with no problem and loads of comfort still got all its give in the elastic section as well!

+1 to that.. had the Overwater strap (still dreaming of one of their basses ) for about six years myself. Brilliant.

Is it only me that bridles at 'Should have....' statements.

I had an Overwater comfort strap and couldn't stand it! Comfort Strapps are far superior imo. One is now fitted to my very fine Overwater bass

All the elastic on the Overwater strap was in one piece in front of the padded section and my bass neck was doing nodding donkey impressions. For me a very significant design flaw.

if you don't have / want straplocks the rubber like washers from , for examples , Grolsch bottles are pretty effective - just push onto the strap buttons on top if the strap ends.
and they won't rattle like strap locks can when not held tight by a strap eg playing sitting down.
