After much tomfoolery with Ishibashi, I finally managed to find the used section. There is a Bacchus BJB-98 on there in a pale blue colour with a white pearloid s/plate which looks very very tasty and very tempting to me. Anyone know anything about these basses???

I don't think its possible to link it.

What I did, is go to google and search Ishibashi and either the first or second link brings up a window which halfway down gives you a link to their used stuff - or "U BOX" as they call it. If you search Bacchus on there, it's the blue one.

Nice bass, nice price too.

Here's a nice one. http://www.gbase.com/Powered/GearDetails.a...amp;Item=865808.

And a nice pbass style on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2000-Bacchus-62RI-P-...1QQcmdZViewItem

Now then now then!! Bacchus eh? well mine is right next to me now and let me tell you, she is a belter. Bartolini electronics in this one - took it to J.East's crib the other day when I went to pick up my fretless and we had a bit of a jam - it met with approval. His thoughts echo my own - it has a lot of 'burp' and the almost compressed slap tone is crisp and very sweet. I am not a massive fan of the pre-amp in mine, it is the Bartolini bass, treble and mids unit which wen you boost a frequency the others are reduced to match, which can be a bit annoying, but I tend to use it only for cutting the treble very slightly sometimes for which it works well because it brings up the booty.

I decided to get a jazz because some of the recording i am doing requires a decent all rounder bass, as the vigiers can be a little too tight or clean and juicy for some things. One great thing about the Bacchus is the fabulous musicman impression it does. i will get some samples made up for you this week if you would like to hear it. I swear you could not tell the difference! All I have at the moment however is a short little fumble I made from my pod xt pro to Ableton Live 6: http://www.frozencloudmusic.com/~chrishisc...ed%20sample.mp3 As you can hear the bottom end is very tight and the top is clear and defined.

Workmanship on the bass is to a very high standard. the body is 2 piece ash and the top something else - the fingerboard is Jacaranda which I beleive is a variation on Brazilian rosewood. Kiwi used to have Jacaranda decking in NZ apparently lol. The hardware is again very good, Gotoh tuners and bridge. I like the Alembic style 2 piece bridge, it looks subtly different. The body and fingerboard are bount all around the edge, meaning there is no rounded edge for yer' forearm which I was concerned about, but I wear the bass pretty high and lean into it so it has not been a problem so far, though I have yet to play a long session with it. The rear of the bass is lovingly contoured. The bass is also a fairly standard weight. I love the aesthetics of the bass, the quirky differences from the scratchplate to the pearl capped knobs. One thing my friend on Talkbass noticed was a mistake on the headstock - it says 'Bacchus - Begining of the new tradition' - spot the mistake! Still, rather that than have them frig up the balance or something.

Well enough guff from me - there are some pics you can see here: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v164/ped...0and%20Bacchus/ which I think you may have seen already.

They do indeed make a very attractively priced and specified bass - mine was second hand (but new in appearance) with fitted hard case, totalling £700 + tax and extorsion.

Hope this helps a little. Here is the Bacchus website: http://www.deviser.co.jp/bacchus/index.html They are hand made by a company called 'Headway' guitars in Japan. I quite fancy a 'Twentyfour Alder Custom' next.

Cheers
"Begining" should have a double N in the middle- beginning.
All the Bacchus bass's are spelt like that. must be a Japanese thing.
I've no excuse though, i'm a printer and i do a bit of proof reading. :)

Well what better way to cheer yourself up then!! I cannot give you any info relating to the specific model you mention but you can rest assured the quality is very high. Keep your eyes peeled on the 'U-Box' for more, they come up every now and then. Sadowskky and Fender bargains to be had, too.

Yeah I had a good look on there a while ago and sent the link about to a few mates of mine and they were all astounded by the prices you can get things at. I emailed the web shop and they replied very quickly with a very informative response! Seems like a great shop!

They are just brilliant. They normally respond to emails very early in the morning (our time) but they are really nice and informative, very eager to please. If you can think of anything more specific you would like let them know and they will ring around all the shops and find out for you.

Simply the most pleasant online mail order shopping I have ever done!
