They're really well built, infact they feel indestructible How much volume one can expect is open to question. They're not solid top, which makes a difference I guess. I don't really expect it to compete with an acoustic guitar. The guitar will be louder every time, just use an amplifier. Plugged in, they sound good, nice pre amp and good neck. The low gloss finish is cool, no 'orrible thick gloss here... This *must* help the tone I'd reckon, and avoids that cheapo thick laquer. These £200-£500 guitars aren't of course as good as a Martin or whatever, But the Takamine is a good working instrument, fairly cheap and ok unplugged. What would really help is to find somewhere in the north West that sells some of the fore- mentioned acoustic basses. Can't think of anywhere in Manchester. Johnny Roadhouse sells some but if I remember it's all lower end stuff. Anyone know of anywhere in the North that has a good, high end, range that I can sample before commiting? iamthewalrus Posted February 11, 2008 Share Posted February 11, 2008 My missus bought me a Crafter 5 ABG for my birthday last year - has really come in handy for practicing when making a lot of noise isn't an option. Am dreading the strings going dead, as I think I might be stuffed when it comes to trying to find 32" scale Bronze strings. Have only played it through an amp once or twice but it sounds good. Can reccommend that & the old Washburn AB20 (with the diagonal slots) that was a nice ABG too. I think it's just a matter of trying out different ones & seeing what you like the best. Good luck.
