if you hunt through the for sale section, OldGit has a crafter up for sale I think. I've had the same model in the past and they're very nice. Don't expect it to have the same volume as an acoustic guitar though because they (acoustic basses in general, not just Crafters) don't, unless you get an upright of course.......

edit: the link is here

Thanks for the mention, Steve

I have the Crafter BA400 for £150 + shipping, as in that link, and a Tanglewood Resonator acoustic bass for sale (that's £120 + shipping),
PM me if you are interested and I'll take some pictures of the resonator..

As Steve says no acoustic bass will keep up with a heaviliy strummed pair of acoustic guitars because the bodies just arent big enough. You'd need one the size of an upright to do that (or one of those Mexican things..)

The Tanglewood resonator is louder but, of course, it sounds different. It's got a great "Upright bass" sound when plugged in though :)

Oh and a friend of mine has a Kiff pointy acoustic bass as in that link. It's no louder but it gets a load of attention when he plays it.

Cheers,
OG
Ovation Celebrity sounds pretty good but isnt really big enough to be loud. Plugged in tho'...... its excellent!
Does that have the bowl back?
They are an acquired taste - certainly not a style to buy without trying as I found they hang in a strange way when playing standing up. Or maybe it's a side effect of my slightly "Traditionally Built" physique

It does,

Yes they are, :)

Yep it probably is, but I suffer the same (less than svelt) physique, and its about the same as a std shape accoustic IMO.

I only sold mine, beacuse one day I will have the ass kickin B778 model (Nikki Sixx edition is based on this one) which is awesome, but 5 times the cost.

My mates Adamas 6 string (carbon top) is one of the sweetest sounding guitars I have ever heard, and gives me goose bumps whenever he plays it......
hi there, im looking for an accoustic bass, i v tried the tanglewood and it feels really good,i need something that sounds loud unplugged, wondering if anyone has any info on any other ones they recommend.
any info appreciated. jimmy
I've been getting along pretty well with my Washburn AB20 with the slatted soundhole for many years now. The onboard EQ on acoustic basses maybe the make or break with any them. Cheaper basses may be ok'ish in a room but on stage, the better bass will prove its worth. The Takamine is a choice acoustic. Maybe the Fender (Victor Bailey?) could be a good bet.

I too have fallen in love the acoustic bass. Currently have an Ashbury acoustic and am looking to go more upmarket. Does anyone either have one of these or has an opinion of one?

Thanks for responses.

Bassmouseman. Thanks for letting me know about the Takamine. Distance is a major barrier, Stockport to Linconshire. Bit of a problem for someone with an irrational hatred of driving. Thanks again.

Had a look at a few acoustics today and this stands out the most: Tacoma CB10 Thunderchief.

Seems a brilliant price at £435, as the cheapest I've seen over here is £699. Can you ship an acoustic from the States? I'm waiting for a response from the retailers about the possibility of this but it would concern me.

Lots of US shops are prevented from shipping to Europe by their suppliers.
The cost of shipping (a solid) varies from about 50 quid if the shop will use the US Postal Service to $200 + if they want to use DHL or whatever ..
Then you have to pay import duty, handling fee and VAT. So, it probably won't be worth the hassle in the end.
