Hiya, I'm new on here. I've had a trusty old Yam RBX760A for years but it's time to upgrade (I'm keeping the Yam as a backup). I want something with really versatile tone. Some of the stuff I play is hard rock, some punky and some funky!

Got £300 - £500 to spend, don't mind getting new or used. I've always wanted Fender but I want 24 frets. Anyone know if the Jazz Bass 24's any good? I also really fancy a Warwick $$ but dunno if I'd get one for that price. Maybe a Corvette? I'm going out tomorrow to play as many as I can so any others I should be looking at?

Corvette $$ here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=7598

And I quite like the Jazz 24 - loads of balls to them.

theres a brand new natural oil $$ thats been listed on ebay a couple of times in the last month with a BIN of £529. The seller is a shop in Northampton i think. if they list again and go for 3rd time lucky...

or if you go into a sound control i'm sure you'll get a Czech Spector Rebop for the upper limit of your price range

Yowsah!

Spot on Matt, I love the Jazz 24's as well. Really punchy sounding thanks to the good EQ and the Seymour Duncan 1/4lb'ers. They're good looking and playing basses with slim modern necks and a modern vibe.

IMHO, if you're after a 24 fret Jazz, I'd go for this rather than the Warwick. Not that the Warwick isn't a 'treffic bass but it's not as close to a Jazz as erm the Jazz.

Oooops, kinda made a idjiot of meself so I'll shut up now.... :)

Thanks for the advice guys. I did go out shopping on Sunday but picked the wrong day cos everyone and their basses were at Music Live at the NEC! I played a Schecter Custom 4 though and absolutely loved it, the neck felt beautiful. Anyone got any thoughts on these?

If its got the EMG pups like the one i tried then go for it. specially if you like the feel of the neck. Every bit as good as a spector or a warwick.
