Amplitube coming soon for iPhone/iPod Touch/that other over hyped pad thing

He says "I don't have a bass" but still some tasty licks that show latency really isn't an issue: Richard Fortus of Guns N' Roses says "the most interesting thing to happen to the iPhone yet": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfMGZ2tx2TE

It is landing in users' hands today in Japan, and has been doing really well. I hope some folks have had a chance to run bass through this here.

Here are the app links and a link to reviews just for reference if anybody needs them:

AmpliTube Free: 3 stompboxes, 1 amp+cabinet, 2 microphones

AmpliTube LE: 5 stompboxes, 1 amplifier + cabinet, 2 microphones - $2.99/€2.39

AmpliTube: 11 stompboxes, 5 amps + cabinets, 2 microphones - $19.99/€15.99

Cheers Peter.
Glad its taking off.

I must admit i haven't got around to getting a iRig yet but its on my list of things to buy.

I could have really done with it at the weekend as we had a lot of time sitting around between sets and we decided to work on some new songs. I had to play with my ear stuck to my bass.

My iRig should arrive this week, very happy with all the demos I have seen on guitar, hope it works well for bass. Also be nice to hear a record function will be in the pipeline soon, that certainly would make life a lot easier.

Ok I now have it, it took a while to get a note out of the headphones with all leads plugged into the relevant ports. My passive bass seems very low output and using the free lead amp (via download) I had to turn the gain and volume up to 9 each, possibly an active bass may suit better. It works as it should now and seems good fun to play with, the tuner and metronome are handy features as with the preset function. I just need to download the next stage which is a hard one as I want the bass amp and chorus but may in future want the other pedals but also I have an ipad and would like to have the same program for that but wish not to pay the full amount twice. But all in all it's good, more of a handy ideas pad but the recording feature is the big thing that is missing.

Here's a nice piece with great video, of a pretty darn good bass player using iRig (and discussing his live rig that uses AmpliTube/Ampeg SVX too!)... Nice that he is another that coaxes signature tones out of iRig (like the Steely Dan guitarist we've got on YouTube doing those tunes too): http://bit.ly/ny1pre

If you are not getting much signal, please do give support a shout out - our CTO who leads these projects is a bass player and I don't think he uses active pickups much so I'm thinking we'd be sure to get good signal from a bass with passive electronics. Thanks!

Ive not used an ipad so it may be different but i can share all my apps with my son by just authorising his ipod touch to use my account. If you own both devices then i cant see a problem.

Not sure if thats legal or not but it works ok.

Whats the latency like? Im looking to get one soon but still cant decide if its going to be better than my Korg Pandora for messing about.

Ohh, great - someone from IK Multimedia in the house. First of all i want to say the iRig + AmpliTube for
iPhone seems to be a good and innovative idea, BUT allow some criticism:

What disappoints me most is that you (IKM) don´t seem to give the bass players too much love with this
app, not many options (amps, cabs, special bass effects) for us bass players as i also pointed out in this post.
(correct me if i´m wrong with the details)

This is a BASS forum and almost non of your 15 posts alone in this thread is bass related, you are only
spreading links for and to your company and do your marketing bla bla (which is apparently your job).
Don´t get me wrong please but i expect more from your postings since you are related to IKM and could
deliver first hand information with bass context.

So ... can we expect more bass stuff (bass amps, bass speakers, bass fx) in the app soon? Why not adapt
the GREAT Ampeg SVX stuff in AmpliTube for iPhone .... i´m not an software expert but this Ampeg SVX
software plug-in are based on algorithms, should not be too complicated to adapt those for iPhone apps.

Thanks for listening and waiting for some feedback, cheers!

I thought the Bass head was a copy of a Ampeg. Isnt it the same as the one in the SVX?

I do agree, us bass players do get a bit left out when it comes to amp sims but i think that reflects the real world. While there are many different bass head manufacturers i still see just a hand full being used live.
And you yourself have just asked for the SVX stuff, all based on one company.

It would be nice to get the same as Amplitube 3 has. I really like the Trace head and tend to use the GK sim most of the time at home.

I got mine this weekend when I bought an Ipad, I downloaded the Free version and then bought the Bass Amp, it was 40% off I don't know whether that is when you first get it or just this week but it was like £1.50 for the Head and 1x15 cab.

Personally I love the sound of it for home practice, would I gig it NO, would I use it in the studio NO, will I have it on the road with me everytime I go anywhere with my band, HELL YEAH. It just makes practicing easy no messing around with loads of cables and needing a power supply.

I've had a Korg PX3b and PX4b and neither sounded as good as this, I find it's comparable when using headphones to my Bass Pod XT which I've now sold.

If you have an Ipad or Iphone it's well worth investing in, but just get the free version and buy the Bass Amp.
