Ped and I have decided to looking for someone to help us out with developing the forum. We're getting increasing amounts of commercial interest but neither of us have the skills to meet the demand in a way that minimises the impact on the browsing experience of our regular members. So if anyone who is interested is reading this, drop us a line with some kind of CV that shows us how much experience you have including references to past clients or employers. We'll keep this invitation open indefinitely until we find someone.

cheers
Steve

We're limited with what we can offer by the use of off-the-shelf software. So we'd be interested in developing modifications that allow us to create a more presentable and flexible 'shop front' as well as take advantage of the google bot lurkers that monitor the home page. We would also need ongoing support for managing the security so that spamming and hacking is kept to a minimum. We had two different parties who were previously interested but one is dragging their feet and the other is now subject to a NZ police investigation for fraud.

The browsing experience for signed in members should remain unchanged as much as possible.

You're not talking about cloaking though are you? Because that would be a very bad idea.

It's basically getting your site to detect a search engine and presenting it with different content than you'd show to a user.

You can read more on Wiki if you're interested - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloaking

Traditionally, Google will ban you from their listings in a flash if they catch you at it.

Yeah it is proper naughty. Even the snake oil SEO cretins frown on IP cloaking these days.

CK: I am no SEO specialist but I am a freelance web developer, I specialise in ecommerce and payment service integrations, I've provided ecommerce solutions for businesses turning over six figures in monthly web transactions. My expertise is consultancy and code for card payment service integrations and negotiations between emergent web-based businesses with new payment - payment/service models and acquiring banks.

If it's purely a UI or content management/delivery problem that needs to be mated to third-party promo code it should be pretty straightforward. If it involves a lot of well-supported local stats and/or insane third-party APIs that's when it gets expensive. Both in terms of code development and also server resources to bag all the biznonsense the third party insists you report to them.

You're talking a language I don't understand :) However if I were to respond in project managment speak, I'd suggest that you were focussing on a solution before we'd defined what the scope of the brief was.

CK - it might be worth identifying if it would be expected for the additional functions to integrate with the existing forum software ? A shop front as far as I can see wouldn't need to ? If it were required then someone with experience of PHP would be suitable.

i guys, the vocalist/guitarist of my band is a Senior Developer with a large Web Development company here in Nottingham. He may well be interested in taking on some work on the side.

If you would like to drop me a PM with specifics and some relevant contact details I will happily pass them over to him this weekend so he can get in touch. I know he a stickler for W3C regulations so everything in XHTML and 100% Validation rate. From what I understand he is efficient in PHP/ASP/JSP & Coldfusion to name but a few…. but they all mean nothing to me so who knows :-)

Regards,

Shep
